Default A little about PerformaBuilt Converters

Here at PerformaBuilt we now offer three distinct style custom converters.
All three are built in the same manor with only the addition of the following for each level.
The 1 level the one everyone is familiar with is the Bolt on ring type, They have served us well and should not be discounted as they are and excellent converter, However they will now only be available in combos with our levels 1 and 2 units.
The next will be our new billet converter level 2 converter this converter is noted by the addition of the billet front cover and the large area lockup clutch and can be purchased with our levels 1-2 and 3 transmissions.
Our best offering has the addition besides the billet cover and the large clutch the addition of a mechanical diode in place of the sprag. This converter is only available with the level 3 purchase.

For now the billet converter can only be purchased in a package with the transmission. Please call for pricing on these options as I will not for now be posting prices etc for these on our website as its in the process of a major overhaul itself.
Bellow are pictures of a disassembled billet version but bear in mind that the regular bolt on ring type if built in the same manor minus the billet cover and large clutch.

These are available now.

Yes I think its a nice piece and no mike I am afraid they would get upset with me if I did that lol

From a strength perspective the only big advantage it has is the billet cover for the large lockup clutch so definatley don't discount the converter we have been selling while they do not have the large clutch like these they have been used in very powerful cars and much more powerful 4X4 mudslingers for years. Its actually a common misconception lately that the smaller converter with the non billet cover are substantially weaker. But beyond the larger lockup clutch if you sat down like I did today and compared the two they are actually built virtually identical up until that point. Performance should be the same , The only thing I can see that might be beneficial in the billet cover is the larger lockup clutch is for instance you have a heavy vehicle and or tow and of course if you wanted to lock at WOT which there are some rare applications where that can be beneficial or last if for some strange reason you wanted to retain PWM to soften lockup apply and disengage. Now when you upgrade to the top unit with the mechanical diode now thats a different story all together very good idea if you shooting really big NOS. In fact though I didn't put them on the scales to verify this I still think the non billet front converter is a little lighter from picking the two up, I think its a matter of what you want and people ask about these so here they are.
Now theres one thing no matter what converter your using that should never happen and thats the converter being locked n lower gears and during a shift that will break stuff.

You can`t blame me for trying! My Lvl.2 and converter are working fine. I will being adding heads in the near future, and I should be around 400rwhp. Should I be thinking about upgrading the converter or should I be fine with my current setup? I hate to buy parts that I don't need, but I don't mind spending some to keep the car reliable. Thanks for any input.

Thanks Frank for the quick reply. I will stay with what I have, which drives and performs great. That new converter looks like a stout piece.

Good Lord , I need a Level 1 for the T/A , trans gone 4 ( yes , I said 4) times within 10,000 miles . Obviously , my rebuilder isn't that good. If we could get a decent stock replacement , I would be thrilled .

While we do sell some 400s they are not our biggest seller as our primary market is late F bodies that are daily driven, The 400 while tough in todays world of high gas prices is generally not considered a streetable alternative so the majority of the sale of this unit we have are to drag and trialored cars
