Default 4L60e neutralizing...?

My buddy just bought a 95 Z Auto... while driving in 1st or 2nd gear at ANY rpm, it stays steady but AS SOON AS he lefts off the throttle the rpms drops to idle and stays until he gives it throttle and it JUMPS back up to that Rpm...

ALSO

When in reverse, it will back up at idle UNLESS on an incline...
if you give it throttle it will start to "slip" and when you give it ALOT of throttle it will engage and blow the tires off....!

What do you think?

BTW... it shifts very hard and firm!

It sounds to me like it has a high stall torque converter.

Well I know the converter will unlock when you tap the brake pedal... sounds like his is doing that just off the gas. Maybe a computer problem?

Default tranny

what size stall converter. I agree with above, sounds like a big stall, which, is NOT a problem at all!

Sounds like a tranny on the way out. Maybe slippage?

I think that there is an over run clutch issue. This is used for engine braking and also will keep the rpms from falling off in manual 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears in a 700r4.

I would have to agree with Vince on the overun clutch set and I have also seen the tangs break off the rear hub section of the input sprag cause this also.
On reverse I would have to say theres a sealing or clutch issue with the low/reverse or reverse input clutch, In any case you will be rebuilding or replacing the trans I am afraid.
