Default how much will 4.10's help my A4?

Well with the new heads/cam combo the car need's a much bigger gear than my 3.42's..I was considering 3.73's but that's just the average set-up...the car does still see alot of street driving...but rarely ever highway miles..I have gone 11.50's at consistant 116 & 117 mph on motor on the stock head's and a hot cam...but with my new TEA s2 5.3 liter's and a bigger custom cam I can only pull 11.80's @ only 113! how much do you predict a 4.10 would help me out?...I am thinking like 1 or 2 tenths at the most..what do you think?

What converter do you have now? What shift points?

With 4.10's and 4L60E, I turn like 3000 rpms at 80mph on the highway, it's not bad at all. It will tighten up a loose stall nicely too.

I think you need to adjust shift points as well as do more gear to figure out your combo.

Thank's john,
I have an art carr 3200 as of right now..and spraying off the line i cut mid 1.4's in the 60'..it shift's at the stock shift point's because I havent messed with the point's yet..but with the converter and on the n20 it shift's right at 6400 or 6300..how bad is it to shift into OD on the track?..I have been shifting into OD right around the 1,000 ft. mark then the car feel's like it's bogging..should I run a taller tire or is it normal to shift into OD at the end...it seems to do it right at 123 or 124 mph..whoa wouldnt I have to run like a 30" tire if I went with 4.10's to prevent it from shifting?..or is natural to finish the 1/4 in OD?

You are using stock shift points with your heads/ cam setup? That's your problem right there. I'd be shifting that stuff at 6400 or 6500. Problem is that on spray your shift points will get blasted to like 6600-6700 and I guarantee you will need a trans in 6 months. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Right now with stock shift points 4.10's would make it worse... I would only do 4.10's if you shift at 6500 NA.

OD is not efficient for any passes but it's your call.

3.42s to 4.10s will definitely help a .1 (on an otherwise proper running car) but as PSJ said you'll need higher shift points to run through the traps in 3rd. Going to 4th will slow you down and the 3-4 clutch packs aren't up to the task anyways.

The loss of that much mph nakes me wonder if you have other issues such as tuning, not enough converter, etc. Raising your shift points will definitely get you some MPH but you should be 3 -5 mph higher than before and you will not get that huge difference from shift points unless you have a super high peaking cam with no bottom end.

How do your 60' compare before and after?

I was running mid 1.5 sixty foot's before head's and cam on motor..then with the head's and cam I could only pull 1.61 at best...I will move the shift point's a little I guess...I don't know I guess I will go to a 28" tire and 4.10's with the shift's extended to about 6500 or so.Thank's guy's,

Could it be traction? With a bigger cam and a set of stage 2 heads he's definatly increased the power. If the 60ft is worse wouldn't that take away from the end result?

What i mean is if you have a run with say a 1.62 60 than a run with a 1.71 60, wouldn't the et(and corasponding mph) always be lower with the 1.62?

ET takes a big hit if you spin, but mph only takes a small hit because you are sitting there going nowhere so the clock is running and then when you hook you gain back most of the mph.
