thats the band inside the trans, dont tighten that in. get a tranny pan drain plug kit and the sender is the same size as the plug. 1/8 npt. just put it in the side of the pan.

It's not hitting the band, if anything it will block the fluid passage. That plug you remove is the pressure test port.

I always tee my sender into the cooler line out, that way you read max fluid temp.

Put it in the cooler line for a more accurate reading, thats what I would do.
You put it in the case it reads a lot off the case temp. Put it in the pan and it reads a mix, an average temp.
Ever see one of those charts that tells you what happenes to trans fluid at certain temps?
Put the sender in the line going to the cooler, thats where you can read the highest temp.
Case temp will read consistantly high, pan temp will read consistantly low. Cooler out temp will swing back and fourth 50+ degrees in less than a minute accelerating from a stop to 70 mph starting with the trans at operating temp.
Depends on if you want a gauge to impress your friends with or a gauge that tells you something.

I have found that installing the sender in the pressure port is a bad idea. The problem I have seen is that when you go to remove the sender it will brake off in the port and is no longer of any use. The pan or a cooler line is the correct place to install it.

VInce is there anything one could block by installing a temp sender into the pressure port?? I usually just use a "T" and put the sender in the "T" on the pressure port. The LT1 cars have a temp sender you can access from a Datalog, thats on the cooler line.

No you are not blocking anything by using the main line pressure port.
