Default 12-bolt install questions

I getting close to order my 12-bolt for my M6 Formula. Is there any difficulties I should know about or extra parts needed? Also, has anyone broken their 12-bolt with a M6 with bolt-ons and/or nitrous?

As for breaking it, if you buy the right components it will take A LOT to break it. I know 10 second M6's that are holding up.

If I had to do it over again, I would get the Moser unassembled and have a competent local shop set up the ring and pinion gears. I would also go with the 33-spline option. I bent my 30-spline and know of others who had problems with their 30-spline axles from Moser. I'd suggest you get the 3.73's instead of the 3.42's.

That should give you some helpful ideas. As for your setup, I would strongly suggest upgrading to 33 spline axle and why not up your gear? You already have 3.42s, why not get 4.10s or at least 3.73s.

There is a site out there that you can plug in you tire size, rev limit, rear gear, tranny gear and it will tell you what speed you will top out at in that gear. This is helpful for calculating what rear gear you need. I mean if you're buying a whole rear and have your choice or any gear, why not bump up? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I wanted to stay at stock gears for a few reasons. I am still on the stock rev limiter, so a 4.1 is too much and I hit traps at 117mph with mild launch, all stock motor, stock airlid, going thru stock muffler. I didn't even have a bottle heater or purge for my nitrous system. I am not even sure what my bottle pressure was at that time. I could be doing alot faster traps now. I don't want to spend more on a speedometer box and I want to keep my 28 to 31 highway mpg. See...I had my reasons.

Well I still have a stock rev limit and 3.73 gears which will allow me to hit the traps at 127mph in 4th.

I haven't noticed any difference in mpg, albeit I haven't taken the new rear out on any long road trips. But light to light gas mileage hasn't been noticably effected. Just FYI.

buschman,

You are running N/A, right? I am running a 150HP of nitrous. I will accelerate to 127mpg faster, so I need the 3.42 to keep from running out of RPMs

OK I order one with 33-spline and 3.73 gears. What about actually installing it on the car? Are there other concerns I should know about?

Did you go with the Strange or Moser? With my strange me and a buddy got it in in a day (4-5 hours) and neither of us had ever done a rear swap before. It was a direct bolt-on, no modification needed.

I've heard the Moser needs some modification to get the panhard rod on. But you might want to ask a Moser owner about that. I don't want to give you false info.
