I have a 98 m6 and will be swapping to a a4. I have the edit how do you change the programming to an a4?

I did it on my car it really was not that hard. The parts you need to get are
A4 wireing harness
Get your m6 computer reprogramed
Pedeals ofr a4 (optional you will have clutch pedeal hanging)
Big tranny cooler becuse M6 radiator does not have tranny cooler in it
Shifter
Uper console
Got all my parts from speed automotive the sent me everything needed.
I really dont know what to tell you on the crossmember i got an auto one did not work so did some welding on m6 crossmember.
It is pretty easy just unplug everythingon the motor and about 4 wires inside the cab under passenger kick panel. Everything just un plugs and plugs right back in. On the pedeal assembly just take all the bolts out and spin the whole assembly to the left and down comes right out as a whole then stick the new one in the same way. You will need ti make aplate to cover the whole in the fire wall where the clutch master cylinder wnet through the wall. If you have any questions just email me i will be glad to help.

Sorry man i thought you were asking how to do the swap. I took my computer to ed wright and had him do it you might call him. The gm delear can do it but the computer has to be in the car for the can do it but you wont be able to drive it up there becuse the car will not shift or anything.

 

I work for the dealership and have a off board programmer. I can easyly change the vin and get It to work but I loose my ability to use the edit with this new vin. I want to use my edit. I have the lock version so its only good for this pcm. I know others have done it I just need to know how to change it. Thanks for you input.

Get an LS1 Edit file from the same year from an A4 car. The Segment 1 ID has to match.. Then you just flash it with the A4 file.. Car will run fine, and you keep the ls1 edit...

 

where is the segment 1 ID located?

 

i'm interested in this too...only the swap i wanna do goes in the other direction...a4 -> m6. i don't have edit, but will have a local shop(ams or lgmotorsports) do the work. how would i do the computer? any way to avoid swapping the entire harness? heard thats a bitch, time consuming like a mother. can't splice the connections in? slowly learning, thanks for the help!

 

Ok Its me at work. I got it to work. The 1998 computers do not use segment IDs. It only has a program number for a4 or m6. I just took a a4 program and downloaded it and it took. Tho 01 computer I did had the segment numbers. cyphur-traq you will have to remove the harness if you want to do it right. It only take about 30 mins with the trans out to remove. No big deal. Its better that way you can properly run the wires in the harness. Thanks for the help.
