After the dealer replaced my trans, first thing I did was immediately take it up to redline in 1st and 2nd then let it shift into 3rd. Pull it down into 2nd as if it was a manual transmission, and let it bang off the rev limiter for a couple seconds. 10k miles later its still runnin

generally if he trans was dyno tested all the break in needed is actually done , However I generally tell people drive around normal for a day start car next day warm then make sure fluid is at top of crosshatch and drive as you will. Reasoning for this is not to break in the trans so much as to give time for air bubbles etc to work there way out of the fluid and to make sure its really full

Transmissions are much different from engines. That is not necessary for a transmission.

I tell each and every customer that once the unit is at operating temp, full of fluid and has cycled through the gears at least once then drive it like you stole it!

The reason is it is absolutely as good as it will ever b right then and there. No break in period is necessary on any of our racing units.

My builder said basically the same thing. I drove it halfway down the street and stomped on it!

Install...drive down street...Put it on the brake and let it eat.. In my mind... a trans is all downhill fromn the moment it's installed....what isn't?

all of this 500 mile break in stuff is crazy..... it only takes a few days at the most of driving to break in anything wether it be a tranny or engine.... i mean what do you think guys do with cars that dont run on the street? race down the track at half throttle for 20 years? lol

lol, engines don't need 500 miles either. 20 minutes of idling to clean out any assembly lube and/or metal particles left over. Change oil and go to the dyno/track/street.

i mean hell if you aint got a flat tappet motor then theres really no break in other than do 2, 5 minute heat cycles if you want to be be safe..... flat tappet motors right now i will say are pretty tricky at times but its still dont require 300-500 miles..... just 2,000 rpms for 20 minutes and then maybe medium throttle driving for 20 minutes change oil and go on your way!

I'm about to get my tranny back and the folks with it said I have to drive for 1000 miles around town before I can break it in. Last time I followed their break in rules the thing shelled on the nitrous since "it wasn't broken in properly".

Most of the converter I sell are installed and at the track that night or with in 1 week. Their is no break in required. What would you be braking in the clutches??? Like Ratchthed said - drive it like you stole it!!!

well i got my outlaw stage 3 transmission in and i drove it cycling through the gears a couple of times ps it an auto , but made sure she was good and warm for 20 min or so then i took her on the high way at 70 for 15 or 20 and i wasnt impresssed at how it shifted until i parked her then the next day started her , warmed her up good went through the gears again and launched her like an ugly step child and snap she shifts firm but hard and just flat out ripps ***

I usually put the car on the lift and put it in reverse for a minute or so with the rear tires off the ground. Then use the brakes to stop the tires, put it in drive and cycle through the gears a couple of times. Take it off the lift make sure its good and full of fluid after i've driven it till its warm, make sure its not leaking. Then drive it like it like I hate it. I also usually have a pressure gauge hooked up at this time to just verify where its running at.
