What driving tips, help keep a 4L60e alive?
I read something about don't do manual downshifts.
I read something about it's WOT 2-3 shifts that kill it but WOT 1-2 shifts aren't too bad on it.
I read something about it's WOT from a roll that hurts it.
Is their a list somewhere of auto tranny do's and don'ts somewhere?
Thanks
Replace the fluid/filter often.
Avoid WOT 2-3 and 3-4 shifts.
Avoid WOT 3-2 and 4-3 shifts.
WOT shifts are wear a lot of the wear happens.. If you are in third gear and punch it, but remain in third gear... less wear happens because no shift occurs.
Don't manually shift the trans.
Avoid using the transmission to help slow the car down.. downrevving.
Keep torque management.
Add a shift kit. Shift kits help increase line pressure which increases holding power and also decreases shift time wich reduced wear and tear.
Unfortunately the driver will have no fun.
It also helps to have a light car.
Regarding gearing.. 4.10 gear will help take load off the transmission.. BUT you will use 3 & 4 more often.. so its a catch. I think it'd be better to have a 3.42 gear and just wind out 1 and 2 than to have 4.10 and be in third very quickly.
Unfortunately the driver will have no fun.
Is Mobile 1 ATF a good fluid to run?
It's what I have in the RS now.
How often should I change it?
Also a friend and I disagreed about this: He says it's best to put the car in Drive in town and shift to overdrive on the interstate. I always leave the car in overdrive and let the computer decide. Any thoughts on this?

In normal driving and 4.3 stock I had a s10 truck clocked 270000 miles with the 60e never even had the fluid changed engine gave up tore the trans out as a core tore it down and other than some very dark fluid and a little wear on the frictions all still looked like new. Of course as mentioned thats no FUN .
