Help pick my gears... A4

I am thinking I really need more gear with this new converter.. The car pulled 1.64's on ET Streets with the vig 2800, now with the vig 3600 I am only seeing 1.69's...

I am currently running 3.42's and was thinking 3.73's or 4.10's..

The new cam I am putting in is 230/230 579/579 114..

I am thinking 4.10's.. What do you think?

well IMHO i dont think gears are your answer at all if improving the 60' time is your goal. you have a PHAT stall (about a 4100 rpm in real life) and that should get you moving real nice. 3.42 will actually be loose for ya and hit the tires pretty hard. what tire size are you running? if a 26" et street than 4.10s will BUZZ the motor up high. work on the tire pressure and launch technique first i say. 1.5x should be netted even with a small gear. oh is the car unusually heavy?

you might be getting worse times cause you're converter is hitting harder hence breaking traction that's why it seems like you are going slower.

If you want a better 60 foot, try working on your suspension.

I don't think there is anyone running 4.10's its too much gear. 3.73 is the max.

A number of people use 4.10s and a few run 4.33s. 4.10s will be a good choice with that cam since it will want to rev high for best performance.

I wouldn't go over 4.10 for a daily driver because the rpms get too high on the highway. Personally I think 3.42s are probably the best if you do a lot of highway cruising. 3.73s aren't too bad for occassional highway trips and work well in town. 2500 rpm = 73mph.

IMO stock internal motored A4 cars run awesome with 3.42's and a narrow 26 inch tall tire.

Depending on car weight you should be able to see low 1.6's out of that vig 3600 on et streets.
You should perhaps iron out the convertor swap before messing with gears.

To take full advantage of your powerband with that cam you will need 3.73's, and 4.10's would be optimal. This gearing works well with a 26X10 tire. I cross the traps at about 6500, give or take, with that setup.

Like ragtop said, you should consider what this will do to your highway mileage and traction on the street, but for driving around town the setup is fine (IMO).

Hey George, Guess the tranny is back together. I was cutting 1.68 60' with that vertor also. My setup was 3:73 with a 3885 raceweight. If u weigh any less than me, and I'm sure u do, u should be able to go lower than that. I am now adding 410's myself in the Strange cause I am not crossing the traps in the higher RPMS. Good Luck

4.10s absolutely rock in big stall A4s! they are harsh on the highway though. i run the gearing for fun pull from a roll and more importantly b.c i run a big tire (28x9 et drags).

MANY of us run 4.10s (or 4.11s like in my sig) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
