Default when to lockup converter at the track

I have a vig 3600 multi disc converter my question is when should i lock it up.I've been locking it up when i go to second.But from reading these posts i think im locking i to early what rpm or gear should i be doing this.

You would only want to lock your converter in third when the rpm passes 200-400 above peak hp. If you lock it sooner you will lose et. If you are geared where your rpm is 200-400 at the lights then you don't need to ever lock your converter.

For 1-2 and 2-3 shifts you should have your shift points set so the transmission will shift around 200-400 rpm above peak hp.

I will try locking it where your saying. i've been strugling with my et and i've been locking it right when i get into second.From what i've been reading im locking way to soon. I know if i try locking later will my mph still be the same or better. best run this weekend was 11.74 118mph i know there more left on the table.

Looks like you are leaving a lot of et on the table. With 118 mph you should be running much better et than I am with only 115 mph. What is your 60'? Mine is in the 1.5's with a 1.54 best so far.

Like I said, if you are having to lock your converter at all you are leaving et on the table.

Right now you don't need to worry about mph. Et is what you need to match that mph.

By the way, I have a 3600 PI too.

Best 60ft 1.68 with et streets car 60 ft better last year. I was thinking my converter isn't flashing right when i atap the car at 3600 rpm car was already going 11mph is this right i would think if the converter was flashing it would be close to 3600 before it would start showing mph. possible bad converter or not.

3600 is probably a little too tight depending on where your cam makes peak torque as I've mentioned. Mine flashes to over 4000 at launch via Auto Tap.

1.68 to a 1.54 60' is where our et differs. Are you sure you have a PI 3600 with a #7 pump?

don't lock up in 2nd. It can cause tranny damage.

So i won't lock it or i'll try in third gear i'll see what works better for me at the track this weekend. and how do you tell were your converter is flashing i have a tap but what should i look for when reviewing a file just want to make sure my converter is right

to measure flash; make a pass where long ONLY 2 Parameters: rpm & mph. You'll be able to see where the converter jumps to and holds for about 2 or 3 data points. Make sure you don't spin or otherwise you'll readings will be messed up.

2000 & newer cars can launch in 2nd gear and that makes it easier to get a clean read.

Peak hp/ 3rd gear is were every body says to lock it up from what i read. stall doe's not matter were your locking up.
