2-3 clutches
I'm getting a rebuild on a 4L60E and am unsure which way to go with the clutches for the 2-3. (3rd clutch?). Afaik there are choices of fitting from 6 up to 10 clutches. The 10 pack will have more surface area but alot of people are using the 7 packs, why is this.

just go with the z-pack as far as the different stackups everyone builds thier trannies different.....for most applications the z-pack you cant go wrong

+1 on the Z-pak. My tranny guy wanted to use those in my trans but they were on back order big time last year.
I have the Borg Warner high energy clutches in my trans now and they feel great.

I would use either the factory 65 pack (7 clutches) or use the 65 frictions which are .062 with .078 steels. This will give you an eight clutch set up. I have been testing different clutch combo's for years and have had very good luck with the eight clutch pack. I feel that the factory clutches work just fine. A clutch is just what it is. If the hydraulics's are good they will work well. If the hydraulics's are not correct, then no clutch is going to last. I to am not a fan of the alto set ups because the steel plates are much to thin for my liking. That would be the 9 or 10 setups. The Z pack some have had good luck with it, but then again it uses very thins steels to mount the frictions to. I also have seen where the clutches wear funny on the first couple plates and the last couple plates in a very short time. Good luck on which ever direction you go. Vince

I use the 8 Friction stack up from Vince@FLT in my truck.
185 Passes ranging from 10.66-11.70 (3800lbs) in one year. Pulled it apart for a look during the winter and everything looks great. I replaced them anyway but will be putting the good used pack in my daily driver. I could have easily ran them for another season.
I am very Impressed with the 8 Friction High energy Setup.
