Default converter screwing up

hey guys, a quick question for yall, maybe. my stock converter has been messin up lately, and i dont know what the deal is with it. i can be driving down the road and nail it, and the converter wont let me go any higher than say 3k rpm. and itll do that for a little while, then i put it to the floor again later, it will do as it should. what can this be? how to fix it? it has 85k miles on it also.

Stock Converter?
I would take it to a Chev Dealer and get a Tech II scan. Or get an Atap scan if you know someone that has one.
Is your fluid level correct?
Have you changed fluid? <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

I don't believe the converter is the problem
here. It sounds more like the trans is not
downshifting. The stock converter, at 3000 or
5000, is pretty well stalled and acting like
a 1:1 coupling. (or 1.05:1).
