Dealership said they would replace the 10 bolt with a used one from a junkyard and offer me a warrant on it for 6 months. They paid a shop to swap out my 2.73 rear and put in a 3.42. Now I got the car back today and it doesnt make the clunking noise as much as before... the only time it does it is if im driving in a straight line about 40mph and then let off the gas to where im at around 1000 rpms and then punch it... it clunks loud then. Is this normal or should I take it back?
when it goes to shift. I am short on funds so I don't want to pay for something to be fixed if it isn't broken which I already did with the trans mount. I need some more input guys... thanks
Jeff
Also wanted to say, when I took it to the performance shop that did my trans mount and exhaust (Dominant Motorsports) the guy working on my car said the trans seem fined. I also took my car to a family friend who is a certified mechanic (works on old chevelles/camaros/vettes) and he said the trans seems fine... WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME!!! ugh!!

Just because your rear axle was replaced does not mean that it is not the source of your problem. Is it a new part, remanufactured, rebuilt or a take out from a junkyard? If you do not know find out.
Then, take the car back to the guys who originally diagnosed it. Nobody hee can do that for you. Expect to pay them a diagnostic fee as they have done this once already for you. Then get back with us.

Have that axle looked at by someone you trust, someone who will open it up and look at the backlash and pattern. Expect to pay for that. Probably around $100.00. If you don't do that you will not know what condition your "new" used axle is in.

I would start by calling the Service Manager and making him aware of your situation. Also, be prepared to provide him an Invoice from Straightline that offers their diagnosis. Ask him what they can or will do to remedy the situation. Chances are he'll tell you that they did what they were told to do by the Sales Dept. At that point ask to speak to the Used Car Sales Manager. Go through the same thing with him you did with the Svc Mgr.
I would ask that satisfactory repairs be made. To me, satisfactory repairs would include rebuilding the rear axle to factory original specifications. After all, do they stand behind the cars they sell?
The problem is two fold here... you most likely bought a used car "as is" with no warranty implied. They most likely made a repair out of goodwill. However, by making that repair they have allowed themselves to be responsible for he repairs for the time they said they would warranty those repairs.
That's the way I see it.
Good Luck.
