That basically what I did. Went from T56 to TH400. I still like t56 for normal street driving and somewhat spirited driving, but I really don't regret going TH400.
The wheels up launchs >>> rowing gears. And replacing clutches gets old fast...
And who needs overdrive, it just means you'll spend more money in gas. Which do you want to do, spend money on gas, or money on clutches?

Unless you have another car to drive or the Camaro is gonna be raced at the track a lot I wouldn't get an A3.
I'd do a 4l80E swap before I did a TH400/350. I'd stick with the T56 until you smoke it. Unless you go to the track like every weekend or something.
With 3.91's and an A4 w/ 26" tires that's as aggressive as I am willing to go (2500 @ 70mph). I couldn't even imagine not having OD and ever driving that setup on the hwy.
Th400 w/ no lockup, you would probably be spinning at 3300-3400 at 65 with 3.42's.
T56 with the right clutch can take a H/C car with up to 150 shot. Like said earlier though it will lack consistency.
