th400 with od?
there is a unit that adds overdrive to your existing TH-350/400 but it is big bucks. around 2500 bucks i believe for the addon unit + about 2-3K for the built th-400 from a number of vendors here. Yank has built a Lock up style th-400 for corvettes but no work on f-bodies yet. lock up style has a lot more to do with the convertor than anything. it still wont have a sub 1/1 final gear or overdrive, just helps with a convertor that will lock up in the final gearing to lower the rpms on the highways.
search and you will see this topic talked a bunch. cant really have your cake and eat it too. strength or overdrive. to have both would cost you a ton (5500 bucks easily).
The 4L80-E internally looks Exactly like a THM400 with overdrive and electronics added.
It even looks [almost] the same externally.
Both the 4L80-E and THM400 were for "heavy duty" applications and can handle more torque than any of: THM350, 200-4R, 700-R4, 4L60, 4L60-E, [and maybe] 4L65-E.
Like the THM400, the 4L80-E is better suited behind big blocks since it has more parasitic drag and big blocks usually have more torque than anyone knows what to do with.
There also is the 4L85-E which is stronger still than the 4L80-E.
Dont know if this is true, but the TH350 w/ transbrake rocks...
