tranny swap i have a '98 Z and it's an auto. i've often thought about swapping it for a T-56. i've heard some people say it's not a good idea, that the car would never be the same. and some have said it would be fine. just wondering if this is a good idea or not.
Re: tranny swap First off what do you want to do with the car? If your after just cruising and basic playing around yeah the T-56 is fun but if your after E.T.'s at the local track then the A4 with a good stall cant be beat. I know I have taken down quite a few 6 speeds with more mods due to them either missing shifts or just not shifting fast enough. One thing I like about the A4 is that when that M6 next to me is shifting to second Im still holding fisrt and as soon as his foot hits that clutch I just got another 1/4 car on him

Re: tranny swap Yah, the swap can be done. Lots of guys and changed from one to the other. It's really a preference thing. I have had a M6 car and my A4 car now, and I like the auto a lot better.

Re: tranny swap Going A4 to M6 is a little more work, but it can be done.. The only stress to the drivetrain that the auto did not make is that it will shock the rear alot more on launches.

Re: tranny swap M6s are definitely tougher on the drivetrain, but only if you launch hard. I swapped from a T56 to a 4L60E/PT3400. I wouldn't go back. I like running high tens while eatin' my chilidog. Rowing gears is too much like work, and costs me too much time getting down the quarter.
