There are plenty of sponsors here with some excellent packages.

Personally I got tired of shredding the 4L60E's that I had and decided to go with a Built T56..less maintenance and more fun for me.

Yup, been there done that 3x... Had a local shop do the performance build on all 3 only because most of the work was covered under warranty. Buuut obviously that didnt work out that great for me. So now I have no more warranty the next time it goes I'm going with a performabuilt level 2 or 3. The rep on here seemed the most knowledgable and helpfull. . .

We need to know some more details on your setup. Mods and rwhp will be helpful. Also what failures have you been having?

I hear ya..I got a friend that runs a local Shop so I got the hookup on it, but it's jut that I'm at the power level that even with the stuff that they put in it, it just keeps breaking. For the cars around the area with about 100 less rwhp..they are fine with the same build they did for me. We replaced all the hard parts with aftermarket parts the last time I shattered the stock stuff. Now it just keeps burning the Clutches up. I've killed 3 within the last 9 months.
I figure a built T56 from Six Speeds Inc will be less maintenance and hold up better.

I'm going to have the 4L65E that I have been using re-built and put it in my Truck when the time comes..atleast put some of the money I have in it to use..

performabuilt......customer service kicks ***, and if you can blow one of theirs in the next 10 years, pay $1000 and they'll send you a new one.

Can't go wrong with any of the great sponsors on here, Performabuilt, FLT, or ACE. The thing is they will need to know what you are running for power, what your intended usage is, and what type of punishment it may experience to direct you to the transmission you will need. It may end up that you need something more radical, or even less radical, than you originally intended based on these variables and I am sure the sponsors want to make sure they hit your goals and keep you happy in the process.

Good luck in the hunt for a transmission, that was one of the most expensive and critical decisions in our hunt for more power/speed/reliability as well!

Uh oh, making me worry about my newly redone 4L60E. I had a local GM tranny guru go thru it with corvette goodies and aftermarket parts as well. He thought it would be fine up to 450+ and would shift "very firm". I wanted to use it in a swap for my 89 IROC LSX conversion.

Maybe a bad idea? Or are you talking more serious power?

Maybe I should sell it before destroying it?

The 4L60E isn't a bad transmission per se, it is just a medium duty transmission that often gets pushed beyond its intended original limitations. They can be built to handle more power, but in the end they are limited to the fact of their original design... With that in mind we are running a built 4L65E that will soon find life behind a 454 stroker.

Rebuilding with the better servos and parts is definately a start, but in my experience transmissions are a touchy, and often, a "luck of the draw" sort of endevour. Our stock 4L60E with a converter lived behind a near full weight SS running a 10.42 @ 130 and never missed a beat. Heck we only pulled it to donate it to another racer who is using it to run 10.3's and is still alive and well. Although this is the exception and definately not the rule...

I am sure that you will be fine if you are running around what your transmission tech told you would be good for the life of the transmission. I expect that the 4L6X transmissions will require more TLC and more frequent refreshening than say a TH350, TH400, or 4L80E; especially with high torque applications.

YMMV

well the guy that owned the car before me beat the **** out of it. everyone that rode in my car said "man, your tranny sounds like its taking a dump"

just this last wednesday, i put on longtubes, ory, to magnaflow, 373's, brand new posi, i already had the slp intake package, and my car made 312 horse and 314 torque in 98 degree heat.

my dad yesterday took the car out to get lunch and did a huge burnout. and after that it started making a extremely loud humming noise. it sounds like an eaton supercharger on a cobra.

help me lol

We offer several different build levels. However, we prefer to build the unit specific to the combination after discussing the vehicles mods, intended use and future mods with the client.

Feel free to give me a call to discuss any builds you may have in mind!

Since were both from around the same locationg, I'll advise you don't get anything local. I haven't heard of anyone from around the area building 60e's that hold up, Im sure your probally planning on getting some mods right?
Get a transmission from one of the vendors on here, I seriously think that all the vendors here put thier soul and hard effort into building great piece's for all the guys here. Why settle for anything less. If I had the money I'd be rocking one of these vendors transmission in my car, and proudly be sporting their shop decal knowing I have a 60e that will finally hold up.

So the 4L80E is a stronger trans then a 4L60E and will the 4L80E fit a 2000 C5?
Thanks.

The 4L80E is one piece.. it will not fit on any Tranx-axle Vette.

It is stronger, ALOT stronger..

The C5 conversion kit offered by Yank is in excess is $10,000.00. It is not for the faint of heart.
