I would get a vig 3200, thats always a good starting out converter, you can do anything you want with it...all depending on traction off the line and your other mods will determine your E.T.

I would go with the Vig 3200 also. And yes those gains are entirely possible, I dropped that with a converter and nitto drag radials, seems like along time ago now...

If you want an inexpensive converter that really rocks, try the TCI 3500 (there's your $500 range.) It's the best bang for your buck converter made, IMO. It'll perform as good or better than the Vig 3200, cost less, and TCI is a sponsor here at LS1Tech.

why would you get a vig3200?
that company cant even rate their converters correctly! you know, the the vig 3200 stalls at 3600. if you like that, just get a 3600 from a company that wont overcharge you for the only converter ive ever heard give people problems. the other day i read a post about a this guys vig breaking and ruining his entire trans, and having to get it rebuilt. PI just rebuild his TC. not gave him a new one, not paid for his rebuild, just rebuild his vig TC. just get 3600 and the same (or different) STR elsewhere and save yourself $$$ and headaches. vig is what, $700? Midwest, TCI, TCS is much cheaper, and havent heard of faulty TC's yet.

I currently have a vig3200 I Love IT! I dropped about .3-.4 in the quarter with the help of Bfg DR. Ive been cutting constant 1.77 60's with it. I drive over 400 miles a week and have had no problems. Go with the VIG3200!

FWIW, I cut 1.61 with my TCI 3500 (which actually DOES stall 3500.) The engine is internally stock (with NO nitrous), the gears are stock, the weight of the car is stock. It's a damn fine converter and the best for the money, IMO.

Guys seeing .8 from a converter swap generally fall into 2 catagories:

1) Cars with 3.23 or higher gears going from stock to a 4000+ High STR stall.

2) cars with 2.73 gears going to a 3500+ stall.

In both cases, good traction, slicks or nittos, are needed.

Gains are .4 - .6 for a typical street converter in the 3000 - 3600 range. I highly recommend a swap. Getting into the 10s with "some bolt-ons" and a converter will take a stripped car and excellent air (unless nitrous is a bolt-on to you. )

I never has a single problem with my Vig3600, it was an awesome converter for what I had done to the car, but I just wanted a little more so I went with TCS. Paid about the same as I did for the Vig. TCS is a great company, give Derek a call and he will set you up.

No, just like to help those out that help us out. I have nothing but good experiences with the many times I talked to Derek @ TCS and from the times in my sig you can see I am very happy with the performance the converter he built for me put out.

LOL

Seriously, though, I think that 99 Ragtop is dead on with what he says. I went from a stock converter to a 4200 with 3.23 gears on my heads/cam car and didn't pick up much over .5 in the 1/4. It's not that I was unhappy with the results, I just don't think a 1 second gain is real common.

Yeah, it has so much to do with what you're starting with. If you added a TP4600 (and traction) to a bone stock car with 2.73 gears, you might drop a whole second.

I agree I would checkout the TCS Street Stalker converters if price is an issue. TCS offers free unlimited restalls and the price is right to boot. I have the TCS 4200 2.7 STR in my C5 and it is awesome.

Oh that is what the other guy was referring to...I saw Violator on there site which has a 98% eff. They don't have any info on the site yet for those. I don't know much about them. Your best bet would be to give Derek a call if you have any questions about those. But my cheaper ($700) Phoenix converter does the job for me.
