Default converter w/ cam

ok guys im lookin at the TR 215/220 cam and i dont want a converter because i want to keep as much driveability as i possible can, im thinkin im getting the mac mid lengths w/ their y pipe. Is it ok to run this cam on stock converter.(i know ive heard all this u will drop more time w/ a converter but i want to keep it a good daily driver w/ pretty good gas mileage) and also do you think i could hit 370-380 RWHP w/ my setup. All info greatly appreciated(thankx for puttin up wit my skit guys)

u want drivability and mileage, but no tuning... WHY do u want a cam then??? if u got a vig 2800 converter, u'd never know it was there until u floored it, and when its locked up, ur mileage will be exactly the same as stock... a small cam that doesn't need tuning is not gonna get u what ur looking for...

I currently have the Vig3200 and drive over 400 miles a week I always get 17-20 miles to the gallon! It has all the street capabilities and I have gained everything! I have an A4 and I would reccomend this converter to anyone, and later on if you want a cam the converter will compliment it.

basically, it makes the car feel a million times more responsive. part throttle feels much better, no dead spots from 60mph or so. and the revs dont drop as much between shifts at WOT which feels better too. IMO, once you drive a car with a big converter, you wont look back. i suggest you try it before ruling out a converter. even a small converter like a vig2800 along with your 3.73's will do wonders for the car.

Yeah vig. 2800 is good but you will need tuning with just about every cam to make it do what its supose to do.

guys u have helped alot i think im goin to ditch tha cam and either get a 2800 or 3200 b/c im kind of short on money and the converters are a little less expensive plus there is a lot more work to be done with a cam than a converter

Good choice, a converter should always be the first mod on an A4. I run a Vig 2800 and my car is a daily driver.

I'm pretty sure Thunder Racing and TByrne Motorsports both carry Vigilante converters. I'm sure other sponsors do as well.

I'd rather have a TCI 3500 than a Vig 2800. More performance, roughly the same stall speed and drivability, for less price.

The right converter will make a car MORE drivable, not less.

The colonel has spoken. Converter is the way to go. In regards to that cam it is a good cam and can be used with 2002 and up Z06 springs, there was a few for sale really cheap used around 150.00 to 200.00. I Just put that cam in my car and it had to be tuned, Set misfire codes and surging and stalling issues , that cam gave me 30 hp and 50 tq at the wheels, My car dynoed low though it dynoed 311hp 335tq before cam and ran whats in my sig, now it dynoed 342hp 385tq but I have no new times yet .Im hoping for 12.20s N/A

Listen to these guys. A cam is great when you are ready deal with the associated issues that usually come with a cam. A converter should always come first. The TCS 3500 (Colonel mentioned) should be almost identical to the Yank ST3500 and is an ideal daily driver converter. The car will feel like a whole new machine. We ran 11.90s and 1.57 60 fts before we even had headers on the car. This car is and is still driven by the owner....my wife. It feels like it should have when GM released them to the public.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm going to go ahead and say it.....I told ya so.
