Experts on Stall, Chime in. Yank.
Hey guys. Im buying a converter soon and have narrowed it back down to Yank. I only want to do this once so i need an expert opinion on what stall speed for my setup in the future. Take a note, this car will be a DD and WILL be driving in some snow and some rain. When i can help it, it won't but on occasion it will be. Anyhow i currently have 3.23's and plan to take the step up to 3.73's after full bolt ons. I plan on running a fair sized cam/heads set up for the stall speed desired. I would also like input on which size cam is best for the stall. Here are my options.
Yank SS 3000
Yank SS 3200
Yank SS 3600
Remember, 3.42's or 3.73's, fair sized cam/heads set up, full bolt on, DD, small shot of nitrous down the road. What do you guys think? Right now im leaning towards the 3000 or 3200. But input is needed. Also the 3200 description on the site says guys running 3.15 gears. Are 3.23's or 3.42's ideal for a 3200 or 3000? Thanks guys im getting confused!

I'm in the same boat. My TA is basically my daily driver, other car is a vette. Sometimes, I will take the TA out in the snow or bad weather.
I have 3.73's and a mid 230's cam. Just bought a Yank SS3600. Was going to go with 3200, but I think 3600 might be better for the street......no joke. With the higher idle speed from the cam, think it would be better to have a slightly higher stall. You can still feather into it, and don't think you'll have any traction issues in bad weather.
I'll let you know how I make out.

um your going to want a 3,600-4,000 for your needs. Weather has nothing to do with your choice in stall, your cam and gear choice has the most pull in your choice for a stall. I had a 3k (pretty much a joke but an improvement over stock) a 3,800 (good choice for street/strip-3,600 would be the same) and i had a 4,200 (was a bit much for my needs as i will stay with 3.23 gears and unsure if im going to ever get a cam, though this converter would produce the fastest 1/4 mile times)

I think if you get a cam/heads/spray the car isnt going to be that good of a DD anyway. Just depends what you can handle I think. Just like with my TD's everyone told me a 4400 stall would be stupid, but now that its in I love it. Would be bad or snow though!

I used to drive my setup year round and I'm in NY. Under moderate throttle the SS3600 behaves, and with 3.73's even better suited for around town driving.
With heads/cam you'd usually want to go with as much converter as you can live with. With 3.73's a SS3600 will feel like a 3200 stall anyway.

Wasn't aware they made a 3800.
After all i have been talking with Bud from FTI Converters and have decided to go with one of them. We have talked about my plans for the car and that it will be driven in snow/rain occassionally and he is going to put together a 3800 Stall 2.16 Ratio Lock Up converter for me! 3 year warranty, 1 free stall change, and great customer service cannot be beat for $675. Not to mention a money back garuntee. Definatly looking forward to it!
