4L80E Shift kit & manual valve body ?
Im in the process of rebuilding a 04-4l80e to put in my 2000 M6 TransAm and wondering do i need to buy a shift kit with the manual valve body kit, Im looking at the Transgo stage-3 with the vacuum modulator, and if i need a shift kit witch would be the best and hardest shift, I will be using a 4400 stall also

I would recommend you wait.
The kit includes some heavier direct clutch piston return springs and a heavier snap ring for the intermediates.
You could skip the heavy direct springs by drilling a .050-.060" bleed hole in the outer edge of the drum behind the piston so it doesn't centrifugally apply, however the intermediate snap ring should be installed in any performance application of a TH400 or 4L80E.
You will also have to drill a hole if you use the vacuum modulation system, no reason to risk getting shavings in the trans.
There are some pump mods too, full time lube mod, etc.
Are you rollerizing the rear planet to case? Another good easy mod to do while there.
34 element sprag?
If you have access to a lathe you can add a torrington to the forward hub easily too.

Like he said, you should wait till you get the kit. Just remember to set the clutches up on the tight side. I'm no trans. builder by any means, so I set the clutches up to spec. All is well except the 2-3 shift is slow. Too much clearance from what I've read. I'll probably pull it, and restack in a couple of months.

My kit is a Alto Red Eagle Power Pack clutches and Kolene Steels ,with seven clutches and six steels ,for the direct and forward drums and five for the intermediate , And the Raybestos Blue plate special four over drives and three over runs. And all new sprags ,34 element , and new bushings ,trust washers and shim kit ,thrust bearings , all new injected molded pistons.Carbon fiber rear band, Carbon fiber 1-1/4 front band , My tranny is a 2004 4L80e ,witch has all the new updates.
jakeshoe, posted some mods for me to do, I can do them i have the resorses and tools but need a little more brakedown on them like :
1.There are some pump mods too, full time lube mod, etc.
2.Are you rollerizing the rear planet to case? Another good easy mod to do while there
3. you have access to a lathe you can add a torrington to the forward hub easily too.
4. drilling a .050-.060" bleed hole in the outer edge of the drum behind the piston so it doesn't centrifugally apply
can some one help me on this by posting or pm me the specs

i have the man kit and a 2005 unit im going to rebuild-i think you reuse your sep plate, and some work is done to it, blocking holes, etc-i have read the directions a couple times, a lot of work-not sure what the vac mod is for, maybe soften up the shifts under vacume?-i think it goes where the force motor was, but the directions are sometimes vauge, kind of have to fig it out
they give you some options for shift hardness, prob better to ck with someone who has done it to pick the right hole size
as i start on my trans rebuild, there are a couple tools needed, i'll have to round up someone that has them

The vacuum modulator is for the line pressure ,It replaces the force motor were the ECM would control the line pressure.
Were did you get your kit from ? I've been seaching around and every body ive talked to say theres dont come with the modulator.
And what do the kits cost?
Thanks,Randy

my kit from Summit had the mod kit-it is sep from the main instrs., has its own-it looks like the mod valve is actually going to be inside the trans, they give you a fitting to run thru the case-sure hope the little hose they give you is for trans fluid, lol
years ago i used heater hose for a p/s return line, dam thing melted from the fluid-thats when i learned its gotta be special hose, lol
when i was looking for a transgo dist, one near me had a kit, but had it a long time, never sold one, so i kind of fig. with Summit having it drop shipped from Transgo, i would get the latest
i know the HD2 shift kit has been upgraded with a sep plate and vid, as i have an older kit laying around, so they do some upgrades on their stuff
