Default stall converter

assuming you were building a car for curves...such as spirited mountain road driving.

would a high stall be much benefit?

if you basically have minimal use for hard launching, but spend alot of time in the 2000-5000rpm range, and probably only shifting in and out of a 2 gears.

thanks

It'll be stronger in every gear and not lose as much rpm on upshifts. Higher stall also softens the feel of quick shifts, less of a shock to the tires mid-turn should it shift.

I think it'd be a pain in the ***....I have stayed away from hilly, mountain roads since the day I added my first converter. I think it'd create too much heat, and just be hard on everything in general. Picture what it takes to get a big stalled car moving from a stop, and then throw in the uphill climbs. Just doesn't seem to be much fun in that. Big stalls have their place, but I don't feel it's anywhere close to twisty, mountain roads. That's 6-speed territory through and through. I don't mean to say that big stalled cars aren't streetable, because I believe mine is as streetable as any. But that scenario would not be an ideal situation for the A4.

I've driven my car through AR ozarks and its fine. I wish I could push it through like road racing but there were too many cars/trucks to pass w/ too little space to overtake.

i think it would have its perks as long as you could figure out how to deal with the heat. the shifts are softer and i kind of like what goes on with the pedal input (as compared to stock, but nowhere near as ideal as the t56).

anyone got any good suggestions on how to handle this kind of heat?

Use a good tranny cooler, or two and have a temp gauge. I've driven mine in the tennessee/north carolina mountains and giggled like a retarded kid with a bag of weed. But, like said above, if mine was a mountain road carver I would prefer the six speed.

I would recomend a low str converter with a stall of around 2800.This would get you some more performance and have a much better lock-up due to the enormous clutch and solid billet lock-up piston. Give me a call at 1-866-726-8358.By running the lower str the converter will not overheat and will have less percentage of slip at couplig phase.
