Default Torque converter and shift kit

Hi i was thinking about installing a tq converter and shift kit. Please read my sig. For a DD what u guys think i should run? I was thinking stall speed 2500 to 3000. I may take it to the track but not much. U guys think this setup is good or bad? I have 68k miles on the clock. Inputs/suggestions please. Thanks. I was looking at the TCI brand.

Yes! You will need a trans cooler....I'd recommend a cooler with a stock stall.

You can order a B&M from the sponsors...but I've had great results from the Hayden cooler I got from a local auto parts store... It was $53 after tax...O'Reillys sells them, also maybe Napa, Advance, etc...

Stick with P.I. Vigilante, Yank, or Circle D. Right now Yank is offering free shipping on their converters.

Read this about TCI converters... https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-transmission/862534-torque-converter-education.html

Also, a tune will help you get the most out of your setup... You don't have to get a full dyno tune...I am only using a mail order tune to straighten out the transmission shift points, etc... I got it done by Steve @ LSXTune.com...his username here is "Frost".. and my car is running great...

Edit: I just read your signature and see you already have a tune..it will still need to be adjusted for the new converter.

I ran a TCI 3000 for three years and then installed a Yank 3600 and the feel is about the same in daily driving.

There have been complaints about the TCI lock-up clutches failing and taking out transmissions, but I had no problems with mine. The key to good clutch life is using the Transgo shift kit with the revised torque converter clutch valve.

Circle D makes an 11" converter with 2500-3000 stall and a good clutch for a very reasonable price. You might want to check in with them.

IMO, installing a Transgo shift kit is every bit as important as the stall converter for delivering overall transmission performance satisfaction.

My car is doing fine without a shift kit, and like I said in an earlier post Yank doesn't recommend them. I kind of wished I went with a 4000, but Dave @ Yank said the 3600 would be better for nitrous since I wasn't revving very high.

But from my experience the SS3600 is a great street stall/daily driver stall because it almost feels stock.

well lemme clear up some slight misconceptions. i was under the whole shift kit idea and purchased one when i bought my 3200 stall. after calling some local tranny shops i noticed the uneasy tone in their voice when talking about pulling apart a 100K 4l60 without a rebuild. after the horror stories of the failure rates of this transmission i kinda understood. so i decided to sell the shift kit, have my tuner work some magic in the trans programming and see where that leads me. my tuner runs a 3200 vig (which are supposed to be underrated)and says my 3200 feels just like his. its an edge brand. so far its been great and its loose enough that you never forget its there then bam it smacks the tires and they hate it. also, my trans shifted soft and lazy before, really soft and lazy with the stall. in comes hptuners and it has tight, firm shifts.
edit: i do believe the trans-go is the best way to go but just wasn't practical for my situation.

Just another heads up, if you do get the shift kit make SURE you tell whoever tunes the car that you have a kit in there. A **** kit+bumped up line pressure from a tune=a disaster waiting to happen.
