IRS and 6 speed would be the heaviest. If you take the hunded or so pounds the blower weighs off the GT500, it is still heavier than a GT

What? The weight of a GT is around 3400 right now and the GT500 is right at 4000. Where do you think the weight comes in because the GT500 is outfitted like a new SS.

I said the Mustang will gain wight with those options. And it would. The Camaro SS has the tr6060 which acounts for some of its weight. As it will add weight to the GT also.

big brakes, beefed suspension, iron block, blower and its accessories, huge wheels

ford put r and d into keeping the weight down; they didnt just design the car and whatever it weighed it weighed

You're old enough to have been driving 20 years ago? You strike me as someone younger than myself. And I wouldn't exactly call a ZR1 "gutless garbage" considering it would do 180mph back in 1990 .

Nobody said it wasn't going to gain weight,I said it was going to weight around 3600lbs.

Yeah it does sound stupid saying if the Camaro didn't have IRS etc it will weight less like the Mustang even if it's true it doesn't matter because it does have IRS etc.

I didnt say the Camaro would weigh less if you took those off, I said the Mustang would weigh more if it had all the feature the Camaro had, which it would. As 88blackgt said heavier suspension(camaros fe3), bigger brakes, IRS, larger wheels. All standard Camaro feature. I didnt say Chevy should take them off, I said Ford will probably add them to keep up with the competition.

Why would they? Last I checked, the Camaro was the one with the point to prove. Mustang GTs now have 18" wheels standard, and the V6s have 17s. GTs have the option for 19s, and V6s can option 18s. The suspension from the Bullitt was carried over for the GTs, and it's not gonna get IRS anytime soon. Especially not to "keep up with" the Camaro.

i was speaking in terms of what made the gt500 heavier than the standard gt

i dont know what the braking system or front suspension setup is like on the camaro

lighter cars dont need as big of brakes or as beefy suspension. i doubt the mustang will upgrade "to keep up;" braking performance and handling are the last things the general buying public looks at when buying a car.

If the Mustang isnt trying to keep up why is it getting 400hp? Or a 6 speed? The Mustang does have something to prove now. It is competing with 400+ hp cars.

The general public doesnt look at braking capacity or power to weight, but i would say 80% of people who dont know performance but look at them would say well the Camaro has 430hp the Mustang only has 400hp, the Camaro must be faster. It will be even worse when people compare a 315hp 5 speed Mustang to a 430hp Camaro 6 speed.

And people dont look at handling but when they test drive it they feel it. Compare riding in a GTO to a s197. The GTO is much smoother and alot of people would consider that in there purchase.

Yes, but at the same time an S197 feels more capable (handling) than a GTO. And the LS1 F-bodies were rated 60-95hp more than the Mustang, yet the Mustang still outsold the F-bodies 4:1 COMBINED. They're not trying to be top dog, just trying to keep things interesting. A 400hp Mustang GT is going to be more than enough to compete successfully with a 430hp Camaro.

I thought we were discussing which one will be a better performer? Now we're talking about which one will sell more? I can't figure out for the life of me why Irunfourteens is a member here, does he ever have anything constructive to say about LSx cars? I'm sure the Mustang probably will sell more units, Fords are cheap.

I have tons of constructive things to say, if you look at things with an open mind. Just because I'm not blindly-biased to all things GM doesn't mean anything. I believe that the '11 Mustang GT will compare very favorably to the 5th gen Camaros, and the fact that they're lighter is gonna be an added benefit. If you pay attention to what I'm saying, I'm not picking sides; I'm excited to be alive during the real "good ole days."

I am very open minded, as I said earlier I would own a GT500 if they weren't overpriced. I would love to own a Viper, but again they are too expensive. I'm not strictly a GM loyalist. This is a great time to be a muscle car fan!

I'm watching SPEED channel at the moment the { KONI Challenge Series from Daytona Beach Fla.} and just happen to notice a Dodge Challenger is being driven against several Mustang GT's (Jack Roush Jr. is leading)Porche 997's/BMW M3's . The Challenger isn't fairing too well against the old dynosaur solid axle mustangs.
