Default Ford Mustang GT to adopt 400hp+ 5.0L in 2011

http://www.fquick.com/blog/Ford_Must...s_5_0L_V8/2677

Ford’s iconic Mustang was given an update for the 2010 model year to keep it fresh alongside strong new competitors such as the Dodge Challenger, upcoming Chevrolet Camaro, and even Nissan’s all-new 370Z, but unfortunately the update didn’t entail any serious changes to the car’s powertrain lineup. Despite reports claiming that Ford’s EcoBoost V6 and a new 5.0L V8 were destined for the 2010 update, Ford decided to stick with the previous 210hp 4.0L V6 and 315hp 4.6L V8 engines.

Comparing to the top-end models, Ford’s 315hp GT looks anaemic against the 372hp Dodge Challenger R/T and even worse against the 422hp of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Even the V6 engine in Nissan’s 370Z drums up 332hp.

The tables could soon turn, however, as a report from PickupTrucks.com claims that Ford’s current 4.6L and 5.4L V8 engines will be replaced by a new 5.0L codenamed ‘Coyote’. The new Coyote engine is first expected to appear in the F-150 pickup in 2010 and then in the Mustang by 2011. The specs include a four-valve SOHC design, with power up around the 400hp region and torque upwards of 400lb-ft.

The base Mustang is expected to stick with the current 4.0L V6, but a new mid-level model is expected to be launched with Ford’s 355hp and 350ft-lb of torque EcoBoost mill.

As for the high-performance Shelby models, previous reports claimed the GT500 will eventually adopt a supercharged version of the new 5.0L V8 in place of the current 5.4L mill.

Yep, that's what they've been saying all along. And considering the Mustang GT will weigh ~400lbs less than a Camaro SS, if the Mustang has anywhere near the same amount of power it's gonna be faster. Honestly the '10 Mustang GT isn't much slower than the Camaro SS is gonna be, because the new Camaro won't be too much faster than the LS1s were. But ya gotta love the horsepower wars. These are the "good ole days," as far as I'm concerned

How do you figure? Ls1=350hp, Ls2=400hp.

The weight difference between the 4th gen and 5th gen isn't that massive.

Average V8 4th gen is 3400-3450lbs. The new V8 Camaros are gonna be ~3900lbs. That's a pretty big difference. So it's gonna be a 450-500lb weight difference, and a 50-60hp difference. So like I said... not that much faster.

Hopefully by 2012 GM will have SIDI technology standard on all of the LS-series engines. So no worries.

Wow, didn't know they were gonna be that heavy. Has someone actually weighed one or is that all hearsay?

LS1 about 320HP

LS2 camaro does not exist LS2 GTO 400HP

LS3 Camaro 422HP and 408 Torq and will weight about 3750 with driver depending on options(sunroof and spare tire)

the V8 camaro should run about anywhere from a 12.7 to 13 in the quarter. It doesn't have much on the 11' GT but this things FE2 and FE3 suspensoin will make this car hook like a sonofabeeetch'

At one time (roughly about a year or two ago) that was the word, but it's the LS3 (and L99 for the automatics) now baby!
Yes, you were a bit outta the loop.

The slowbalt is no longer the "fastest FWD production car" to run the 'ring.

A 400hp 3500lb car is gonna be pretty ******* stout too especially so if Ford decides to go a steeper gear ratio in the rear end and first three gears like they have the past couple decades.
