Pontiac is gone! This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!
I didnt want to hijack the other threads on this subject plus I just need to rant right now! This sucks! I just read on yahoo that the general is killing in my opinion the best brand they have! I dont get it though over the last 10 plus years how much money as GM made off pontiac? They have sold a crap load of grand prixs and grand ams. Not to mention the G5 G6 G8s and even the bonneville. Ok the aztec was a pretty big flop but they cant all be winners. So now what happens to a niche car like the camaro?? If sales dont do well and GM is still hurting in a year or two they would have to give that the ax to. What is left the the vete? Even though its a cheap sports car I still cant afford it. This really bothers me but the mustang looks like it will be the only survivor out of this deal. What is your guys opinion???

I feel your pain, but for one reason: the G8. I could give a s*&^ less about the G6, the G5, the torrent, and all the other re-badged chevy's that have with pontiac name plates on them. GM will surely show their stupidity if they do not re-badge the G8 as a Chevy, because I believe that it is the best four door that GM has offered in the US in a LONG time. I guess I won't be buying a G8 once I climb out of the hole that purchasing my first home has put me in. Only time will tell...

I dont know why they would do that considering the GTO started the muscle car era.But they must no what is selling and what is not or they would not have done what they did.All can say is it is a very sad thing.I think the G8 will be a Lumina SS now if they are smart.

POntiac has had tremendous sales in cars like the g6 and grand am and grand prix. The Bonny was ok. Of course the Soltice is a best seller as well. But with the G6 and soltice, its bigger sellers, theres hardly any profit. So even though they are selling like nuts, they still dont make much off of them. With cars like the Aztec and Torrent, so much money goes into those cars and they flop. If Pontiac had been slimmed to Soltice, G6, Grand Prix/G8, it would have dobe well i think. But dragging extra weight for years for no reason (aka torrent vibe aztec g3) has its consequences.
I hope to god the G8 becomes a Lumina SS like everywhere else in the world. A Buick Solstice may sound odd, but could work out.

I understand getting rid of hummer saab and even saturn but pontiac has sold so many gand ams and prixs that I would have thought it would be one of the brands keeping GM afloat! How many cars can buick be selling?? I mean Really? Im not real big on 4 door cars but the g8 was starting to have a good thing going it sounds like.

Also how much money will be available to a lumina SS or even the camaro in a couple years if this doesnt bail out GM?? And any other future cars that we dont even know about yet.

Your only thinking here, you have to think globally. Buick has a stronghold on the Chinese auto market so as long as its being made, may as well keep it here for once we all retire.

My Thoughts...
Scrap the current front wheel drive Impala and replace it with a G8 (maybe even use the Holden front and rear body parts to save some cash).
And for the up coming (well if Pontiac would still be around in 2011) G8 ST. Leave it with the Holden body parts and sell it out right as a Chevy El Camino.
Now for Saturn, Save the sky and I'm not sure about the rest.
A simple choice would be to move the Saturn Sky over to Cadillac.
Since the body lines closely resemble a caddy to begin with.
Maybe change up the engine selections to say:
Base model: 2.2L Direct injection inline 4 (bore out the SC 2.0L but loose the SC)
Sky-V would get the 304hp 3.6L Direct injection V-6 (same as the base CTS and Camaro).
Silly question: Is GMC going to stay around? Since most of the GMC user lineup can be broken down to Caddy SUV's and Chevy Pickup/SUV lines.
The only part that is not is the Large size truck line (the big haulers 3500, 4500, and larger). But they could be rebadged as Chevy's anyway.

I'd kill off GMC and make all of those trucks as a Chevrolet (like they already do, I don't get it???). Nobody will miss the Denali, get a Tahoe or an Escalade its not too hard of a choice.

It was going to happen sooner or later. With all the new emission law set for 2012,v8 don't stand a chance any way. Look on the bright side if you own a T/A its already a classic and is only 7-12 years old.

I could understand getting rid of GMC and incorporating it into chevy. I thought saturn was finally on an upturn. I havnt heard any production numbers to back that up but thats what Ive been hearing. The other downside is all the lost jobs not just now but in the future IF GM gets back on its feet. They will still probably have to file for bankruptcy before its all over!
