um, actually there are people making 20+ an hour to do that job, and then retiring at 45 and drawing a retirement check for more years than they worked. Thanks for playing, but you still fail.

You need to read up on what these guys make for putting in a dash, or putting on a fender per hour. Its truly is ridiculous, as you put it.

Making over $40 - $60 per hour, just to install a fender. Are those fair wages? Apparently the UAW doesn't think so becuase they are always fighting for more. I say the auto companies need to ditch the UAW out of their system and reset their wages to a reasonable level. $40 per hour to install a dash of fender is not a resonable level. Maybe $14 -$20 as you prescribed above is fair. But then, if they get a degree or further their education, they could move up to a managment position of some sort for about $25-$40 per hour, help pay for that degree and all.

Otherwise, if they are just out of high school, or just off the street with no degree and only public education, paying minimum wage is definitely fair! After all, their education was given to them, they didn't have to pay for it. Now, out of public school, its time to work for your money kiddies. Mommy and daddy isn't going to be supporting you anymore and damn straight its nobodies responsibility in this country to support your lazy *** either. If you want to make the big bucks, take the motivation to get higher education then what was given to you. Don't fall back on your UNION to get your raise. Show your employer why you DESERVE a raise. One deserves a raise from good work, motivation, initiative and skill, NOT because they are a member of a UNION.

Unions are crap. One good idea gone horribly wrong and will end up being the fall of this country.

I am one of them and they were making $20hr. You fail. Keep it up. Fact is we are the only American workers left with enough guts to stand up to the corporations while the rest beg and brown nose their way up the ladder. Unions didnt raise the cost of health care or the cost of living. We fight constantly for things that will ease the burden on business but people like you keep voting for people that want to keep the status quo and not fix health care which is the leading cause that is hurting the auto industry and all other industry

I dont have to read up. I am UAW so why dont you stop with the facts optional ranting. The old tier scale paid workers that amount that have been their for years. Back in the days where you graduated and got a job unlike the spoiled brats today that think a college degree is a title of nobility. And anyone who doesnt have one is lazy

The new workers now hiring in, thanks to the new agreements, starts workers out at $14hr. You just made that $40-60 number up outta thin air and I have no doubt you've never liked unions for any real reason and therefore will tell any lie to prove your point. YOU FAIL

Youre the ones attacking people with no college ed. Im 100% in favor of anyone going to college and I commend others that go on to better things then factory work. I did it, and I like doing what im doing in manufacturing. But when people start making absurd claims like workers earning a fair wage and health care and a pension as endangering GM and other auto co. out there I take offense. The UAW agreed years ago to cut wages of new hires to only 50% of what tier1 workers earned and guys like you still refuse to except that as reality due to your existing prejudices towards the UAW. Honestly, I have no problem bankrupting any corporation that profits on tossing workers overboard and receives aid from the govt. and takes all they can from workers

YOU are the EXACT reason the unions survive... Please tell us NOT just your hourly wage but an ALL INCLUSIVE number INCLUDING healthcare(# of dependents), retirement pension and any other pertinent crap.

WHAT was that "hourly wage again?"

Oooo00ooooooohhhhhh... You forgot about that.

Come on buddy.... Be honest....

He can't stop, you didn't look at his location........

"Coal Valley, IL"

Didn't Obama come from IL? Isn't he the one pushing socialism nationwide and Unions for everyone?!? Oh......yeah.

IL happens to be the capital of entitlement. All those people, almost worse then the Katrina victims talking about "their" payday, and "their" gov't checks, and "their" entitlements. I guess all those people just kind of forgot that people are entitled to nothing, nothing in this world belongs to them unless they work for it. But then again, thats how they were all raised, everything given to them so they are so used to that standard of living they feel it is their birthright to have these things, with or without any effort of their own.

Not saying everyone in these two particular places are like that, but sure does seem like MOST of the people feel that way, or so it seems.

I didnt know this was a bad mouth katrnia victims thread but what ever. Just by your remarks alone I can see your not a very thoughtful person and exaggerate quiet terribly so Ill see that as reason enough youve got no real expertise on the subject and are just here to bad mouth 80,000 people you no nothing about. And I consider myself a midwesterner not some die hard illinois resident. Manufacturing is a huge industry and keeps towns alive up here so we will defend these jobs all we can

Those workers were put on community service for there time spent on the jobs bank program and each one of them hated it and would much rather be working in the plants, they didnt just sit at home and collect, thats not how it worked. And $28hr for the tier1 workers(hired in in the 1970s at $6hr). I cant speak for assemblers but I myself am a CNC Robotic welder and operator and worked quite hard to learn how to program and operate machinery. Did some college and training and think all of us are worth the $20 we make now. Im in favor of taxpayer based health care but too few with too much power make the decision so we will keep on our employer to pay our insurance and were not giving that up
