Why compare it to a ZR1 right off the bat? Looking at e-bay I can find 2010 GT500 selling for $47-50K, ZR1s are $70K more then that. So for the price difference I would hope the ZR1 would be the "better" car even though the two aren't really in the same league. I wouldn't mind owning an 08ish GT500 over a new 5th gen.

Why wouldn't it? It would be more efficient than the current supercharged V8.

Not much for competition.
Should be a good race vs a Z06 though. 95 hp vs 1000lb's.

I hope this is true. Ford is really picking up there game. They have a new 6.2L SOHC motor for its Raptor truck, which is badass BTW. Possibly have the 5.0 Cammer motor in the mustangs with 400hp. Now a TT 600hp GT500!?!

For example the Z28 was delayed because it would **** up Chevy's CAFE numbers, but then they got the EPA to certify the Volt at 100+ MPG and suddenly GM has room to produce the Z28 and some rumored bad *** Buicks.

wel the GT500KR is ~$70K (w/o dealer markup), so figure this beast to be about the same price. I perdict $75-80K, w/o dealer markup. It will probably be around $100K when all is said and done. for that price, ZR1 baby!

ha i regret starting the zr1 debate right away. let me just say i am very impressed with ford stepping up their game. new motors, new ways of making power, their catching their stride. these twins are gonna make it a whole new game!

CAFE is Corporate Average Fuel Econ. This means all the cars Ford makes have to average out to whatever number CAFE is. So average of all production models that Ford has, not just the 'Stang. So things like the Ford Fusion Hybrid get that number up high enough that it can take the hit from the 'Stang.

Does anyone remember the twin turbo LS7 Corvette mule that burnt down at the GM testing grounds? Rumor said that was originally going to be the ZR1, but the twin turbo LS7 was axed after the accident. That was a couple years ago.

I highly doubt a GT500 will ever come with an auto trans. The twin turbo
thing does sound interesting though.

Powershifternc,
thanks man.
The 5.0 Cammer is a go, search for Coyote, they have them in testing in both Mustangs and F150s. 400HP and 380lb ft or torque, believe it's also a 4 valve? It's just what Ford needed to step the game up in the F150s and Mustangs. If it had been out when I was truck shopping I would have given the F150 a closer look. Just curious how it will react to mods, namley n/a. Healthy competition is a great thing for us, for a lot of people it's just advertising, but for the gear head crowd it's more then that.
