the reason they come loaded i think is because alot of the stuff they are loaded with comes with the SS. They also probably are looking for the model that best compares in as many aspects as possible and that i think is why the price is higher on the Mustangs now. ALSO i had read that the "track Pack" from the last few years is STANDARD on the new 5.0 Mustang so that wouldn't be figured into the cost as an option since it's not one. The top i'm sure is spendy but from what i can see above, that blue one doesn't appear to have a clear top. Looks blue body color to me. Might be the angle too but the red one appears to have a dark colored top a.k.a. see thru top. They may have given them the see thru top because GM's sunroof option which is probably much cheaper. I too am wondering what is up with Ford lately. All their cars are going up in price by a good amount. The new Taurus is over 45k for the SHO. While it's a nice car it's gonna be some time before people can get over the name Taurus that's worth $45K+ Just a thought....

i just built and priced both the GT and the SS and both were within ~1k of eachother.

a base GT is 30,495 and the SS was 31,7xx i beleive. so its not a huge price gap. this is the cheapest i could find in my ZIP code. now, i doubt that included the dealer markup im sure the GT is going to have.

Thanks for putting all this data in one place TriShield.

I would say both cars being stock, the very slight edge goes to the Mustang. It seems as though every test that has happened on the same day, with same coniditions, and same drivers, the Mustang edges out the win. However, this data shows that the Mustang vs Camaro battle is alot closer than everyone is making it out to be.

I could definitely see how some have voted for drivers race. These two cars will be very close on the street. It looks closer than the Mach 1 vs LS1 competition that has plagued this site for years.

Mustang Base Price: $30,495

Camaro Base Price: $30,945

The Camaro comes standard with Brembo brakes. And to have an equivalent Mustang with Brembos you have to add a $1,695 package more the Mustang's price.

oh ok so they aren't too far off. Still like mentioned, the dealer markups on the "5.0" is gonna be high for a while so i still think the Camaro is gonna cost less.

From what I've heard the stock brakes on the GT aren't significantly behind the Brembo optioned ones in most stop tests....only a few feet from what I understand. Biggest advantage to the Brembos on the GT's is they don't give in to fade under hard use as quickly as the standard units. But that's something only a hard run on an autocross or circuit track would reveal. I think the standard equipped GT does just fine on the street given its lesser weight when compared to the Brembo equipped SS.

I think the 3.73 rearend option on the GT is really the must have for performance buffs IMO, but that option only costs a couple hundred bucks. I'd only opt for the Brembos if I planned on tracking the car regularly.

So truthfully, the Mustang isn't more expensive than the Camaro. For similar performance numbers both cars are going to costs about the same.

Unless I'm reading the data wrong, it looks like the Camaro beat the Mustang in every test but one. In the last test displayed (Motor Trend, I think), it looked like the Mustang ran significantly faster than in any other test run to date. This makes me wonder if Ford sent them a ringer car for that test vs. probably just an off the lot Camaro.

All I can say is, we will see soon in some real life tests at the track. I'm thinking that the Camaro is going to come out on top.

12.9@110.7mph is cooking in a purely stock car. I don't see how anyone can sneeze at the Camaro's performance in acceleration, braking or handling. Especially for the money it costs. The only test the new 5.0 had a dicernable edge against the LS3 was the last MT test.

I'd give the nod to the Mustang for 2011.

I say the SS has the edge on a roll but It'll be a driver's race in most cases. 2012 might be different because of feds standard for the Mustang..

I cant believe some dumbass auto journalist were all over the 2010 GT and telling it was better than a 2010 SS....

no, CAFE standards arent mandatory untill 2016. safety standards go in effect in 2012. which is why the new Camaro already meets thoes.

I'm curious as to why Edmonds 0-60 test is a whole .5 seconds slower than everyone else's test on the Mustang. That's a whole lotta time that DA and a possible ringer car can't attest for. Maybe they just had a terrible driver?
I give the edge slightly to the mustang as well, but like it's been shown...no by much.

Both cars are great performers thats for sure, The Mustang being a tad quicker but also a tad more expensive. I would take either or of these cars.

As said before, It's a drivers race in the end.
