Test Data Comparo - LS3 Camaro SS vs 5.0 Mustang GT
#125
A little fall/winter air and some proper 'break in miles' certainly wouldn't hurt.
I am now reinstating my original ET prediction for the new Mustang GT 5.0L, at least one car WILL see a 12.4x (maybe even a 12.39? ) in bone stock trim before 2010 is over.

Read the car and driver article. It mentions that the mustang had 3.73 gears and the 255 summer tires..
Second page...they mention the mustangs gearing advantage with 3.73's compared to the camaro...
On the other hand, with a 280-pound weight advantage and a shorter (numerically higher) rear end (3.73:1 versus 3.45), the Mustang was quicker in our 30-to-50-mph and 50-to-70-mph top-gear passing exercises, as well as in the 5-to-60 rolling start.
3rd page...they talk about the mustangs 255/40/19 pirelli p-zero tires....
Our test driver felt that the Mustang’s smaller rear footprints (255/40-19 versus 275/40-20—all four cars on Pirelli P Zeros) hampered its launch and may have held it back in the lane change, where it was slower than either Camaro
Am I the only one who noticed that the camaro beat the mustang by almost 2 seconds to 130? My god that would be bus lengths worth of spanking at that speed....bus lengths. I would guess most owners will not have to worry about 70mph highway roll races...jesus.
Must be when the short sprints are over the camaro really gets into stride...WOW.

I was thinking the same things. After 60 in C&D tests the Camaro walks from the Mustang.

I am impressed by the new 5.0 but for the price difference to get the faster 5.0 for the $9000 difference that u can put into the Camaro it makes it not worth buying the 5.0.I put $3500 into my 10 and it is making 430 rwhp and still have $5500 left i can spend on the Camaro. But if i had the money i would own both.

Where are you getting that you need 9 grand put on the 5.0 to make it faster than the SS??? Even with the GT's performance gear and wheel option it's only a little over a grand more than the SS.

Damn I'm late on this one. Didn't realize ford stepped up their game with the gt.
It doesn't matter with me as long as the ls3 is around. Faster or not, there isn't a way I would skip the chevy for the gt. The shelby is a different story, but even there at 60k I would look at the zl575 or a hennessey, calloway, nickey, etc. camaro first.
Biased..maybe...but the ls3 by itself rules.
