Guess they didn't tell him that crash testing wasn't done on the highway and that they use crash dummies for that kind of testing.

Apparently it has a little more oomph in second than the Corolla S he's used to driving.

It is sad that people died/severly injured.

Think it was a stuck accelerator pedal/DBW? Had to say it.

other car seemed fine, since it was a BMW. Maybe Toyota needs to design a car like the Germans that can survive a high speed impact

RIP to a world-class driver and fellow car enthusiast who died trying to work the kinks out of another amazing automobile. All of the disrespective haters should think back to 1982 (if you were born then) as to what the automotive world could be without all manufacturers trying to get better/faster.

looking at the accident scene makes me think it was a nearly perfect head on. the bimmer was obviously yawed right slightly for the rear end to kick out. i say the because the cars traveled only a few feet from the impact. not much left over energy.

it also appears that the lexus is designed for normal frontal impact, but it IS a supercar and should take a higher than normal speed impact with much less damage to the drivers compartment. the 5 star frontal is not for a 200mph car.

the bimmer took that same impact and the passengers will live. i would think twice about buying the lexus if i planned on running it fast. dying aint much of a living.

just my opinions.

RIP.

I was around (and conscious/alert enough to know LOL) back then and if I had to credit one car for singlehandedly reviving performance in America it would be the 1982 Mustang GT 5.0L. It wasn't earthshatteringly fast or great handling or anything but prior to that even Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches in America were pretty damn slow.
It happened over the course of years but it all just got better after that.

Directly insulting people for "mildly offensive" jokes about someone they don't know and have never met before is hardly a way to gain sympathy for your cause...or even respect at that.

I might add that I credit the natural progression of technology for the difference in automobile performance rather than companies employing test drivers.

Shame.

Quite a loss to the enthusiast part of the automotive world.

Nice to see some people know his history.

There really are some classless responses to this thread. It's too bad what happened to the driver though.
