It's quite obvious why they did this "mule" up the way they did. They WANT it to be seen and photographed. It's a sort of viral marketing tool. Why else do you think the driver left the car sitting with both doors wide open and a big sticker disclosing the equipped drivetrain clearly visible. If they wanted these test cars to go unnoticed, they would have disguised them as ordinary SS' cars with no cladding, stickers, or badge "disguises".

Gets people talking about "Hey I saw the new Z28!" Generates buzz about the car.

Why all the drama on whether or not it will have an auto?
If you want a manual trans then yo will still be able to get one while GM makes more money from selling autos as well, if anything this will allow the car to be sold for less, so its a WIN WIN situation.
Dont getme wrong i myself would never buy an automatic, but i dont see how its a bad thing that its offered as an option for others.

Personally I wouldn't take a manual if you gave it to me, but with an A6 option I could see myself buying one of these eventually.

Im very happy to see them comming back with the Z28. I just hope GM puts some thought into what there gonna price this thing at. Its obviously aimed at the Cobra, my guess is that it will priced pretty much in line with it.....I hope.
