the F1 was a seriously awesome car. however I dont see what it has that the veyron doesnt. the wiki page says they can fetch over a million dollars when for sale again so theya re both on the same price level and the veyron is so much more luxurious and much faster...

Super Sport? Yes.

Regular Veyron? Only in a straight line, and if the TopGear comparison of these cars is anything to go by, the Veyron only pulls it by a bit on the top end.

i'd like to see both cars' track times for comparisons sake. they say a veyron could launch from 0 while a mclaren is @ 120mph and would still beat it to 200 and the qtr mile for the veyron is much faster than the F1's

I agree, on paper, the Veyron wins handily.

But really, the only real world comparison done (to my knowledge), had the Stig inside of the F1, and Hamster inside of the Bugatti (not that hard to drive the Veyron, as we are all aware by now).

Granted, not on a track, but rather an un-prepped stretch of Arabian highway. Where the AWD car would theoretically shine.

The Top gear Veyron vs F1 is nothing to go by.

On their website and in their magazines they explained how they didnt "launch" the veyron but just took off to make it more interesting.

Had it been launched it would have put down the times it does on paper, or VERY close to it as its an AWD automatic car with launch control. Would have been domination.

Well, if that's true, then it is significantly faster than the Mclaren in a straight line.

However, there aren't too many racetrack lap times for the Veyron, and I would put my money on the F1 to be faster there at least. Also, just because TopGear deserves a little credit, the now former Stig drove the **** out of it at their test track and mustered an underwhelming time.

Id be real interested in the F1s time around the track, but i dont think the veyrons time was that underwhelming, it was even faster then the basically full track car MC12 was while retaining all creature comforts. The SS was just nuts though.

I saw the top gear segment of the F1 vs veyron drag race but it looked very half-***. It seemed like the road was VERY hilly and they were both constantly having to move over and hit the brakes. I'd like to see a real 200mph sprint on a straight and level road...

Agreed, you could buy more than 150 of what he's driving for the price of the SS. And that's just to buy the car, not counting the $100+k to keep it going every year. Most people buying these cars are not the ones bitching they need a manual.

As for the F1 vs Veyron, I don't see the F1 touching the Veyron on any track. You are talking about a car that came out more than 10 years before the Veyron. Sure it's great, but they just didn't have the tech back then that went in to the Veyron. The F1 is easily one of my top 5 cars but it will not keep up with a Veyron in any test, other than being more fun to drive.

the BIG MAC just celebrateds its 20th b day the bug wont be relevant in a few years the history behind the big mac makes it the ultimate in every aspect anyone can make a car fast but it takes genius to do it with wat the big mac did it with .....thats the difference the bug is a wonderful car the F1 is brilliant then and more so now when you realize it is still relevant 20 years later

Top Gear track is more or less a power track with big sweepers.
Unfortunately, TG is the only 3rd party reviewer to test the Veyron around a track.

Top Gear is an entertainment show, so take their info as such.

If you watch the original Veyron episode (race vs place) and then the race vs F1, you will see a major contradiction. JC says that if you start the F1, let it get to 120 and then set the Veyron off, it will beat the F1 to 200. However, when they do a race in the sandtrap, they are side by side. WRONG. The Veyron will run away from the F1.

The F1 is cool and was amazing for it's day, but there is no argument. The Veyron is a bigger breakthrough. It feels virtually the same at 55 as it does at 255. The F1 was said to be frightening anywhere above 200. The Veyron was built to last just as long as any other VW. The car was built just to say it was. It is as close to uncompromising as can be done IMO.

But the F1 can win the 24 Hours of Lemans in a detuned state... the Veyron would never be able to lay claim to that. They are both amazing cars, just for different reasons.

Again though that was how many years ago? In it's day the F1 was more impressive than the Veyron from a performance view, but like you said they are two totally different cars. One was made to go 250+mph and still be able to talk to the person sitting next to you, the other was built to be a lightweight race car.
