Somehow, I don't think that's what they have in mind. Reading this....

.....I have a feeling they are considering the Chevelle nameplate. Dodge already paved the way with a 4-door Charger, and made it a (relatively) successful car. As this new V8 RWD Chevy is being billed as "V8 only, limited production", I'm guessing they'll want to give it a popular and nostalgic name reminiscent of Chevy's high-performance glory days; especially since the retro names are popular right now. If they are aiming directly for Charger with this car, then it makes Chevelle an even more likely choice.

Seems like the only other name not currently in use, with good brand recognition, is Monte Carlo. Though MC has been in use several times over the last few decades, hardly making it retro or exciting, and having renewed it's image as a 2-door only car as recent as 2007 might make the 4-door look more challenging to market.

LOL. Maybe they'll call it a Laguna.

Why not Nova? It's been a V8 RWD car as well as it's been a sedan.

They royally trashed the name back in the 80's, time to recoup some pride!!

Some good points being made here. I think either Chevelle or Nova would work well, though I think the Chevelle name might get more recognition.

That would almost be as bad as "Nova."

Nova is a small-car nameplate. It's competition was the Dodge Dart (and later, Aspen) and Ford Falcon (and later, Maverick). It was never competition for the Charger. But with a 4-door Charger R/T, and the prospect of a potential 4-door Chevelle SS, I guess anything is possibile. Though I highly doubt they would resurrect the Nova badge before Chevelle, for a car like this.

Nova did catch an ugly break in the mid-'80s as a rebadged corolla, not sure how strong those memories are to the general public. I like to remember the Nova as this:

NOT this:

They need to make sure this isn't just another muscle car but a functioning sport sedan on par with the competition.

It's funny, becuase this is exactly what the Head of Holden said he did not want to happen a year ago. AKA, bring over the same product they brought to Pontiac; axe it, and then bring it back to Chevy...Again. Essentially the same exact car.

Doesnt Holden produce an AWD V8? It would clearly be a different platform than the zeta but an AWD American V8 I think would sell great.

i say they should just cancel the plan on refreshing the current impala and just put the name on the commodore and be done with it, the malibu can compete with the accord and camry, if they were to make a chevelle it needs to only be a 2 door

i dont see the need for a 2 door Chevelle. we have the Camaro and Corvette, and i think it would compete too much with the Camaro

Chevelle was historically offered as a 4-door as well, under the Malibu trim package. It's the thought of a Chevelle SS as a 4-door that's blurring the lines. But it's no different than Dodge's 4-door Charger R/T.

And I agree with the above, offering this car as a 2-door only would be a mistake, since we have Camaro for that. A 2-door option would be great, but if it's only going to be one body style, then it should be a 4-door for the sake of sales.

I would be alright with a 4 door Chevelle. I love Chevelle's and personally think they will always be 2 door cars for the sake of getting this car to sell and be competitive i don't care wha they call it

One of the big problems with the Nova nameplate is that there is a large portion of the population that speaks Spanish. In many Latin-based languages, "no va" translates to "doesn't go". Would you buy a car that had the name "Stationary" or "Still"? Therein lies the problem.

Like I said earlier, it's a new car, give it a new name. Don't try to sell it as something that it isn't.
