Depends on the loss, 15% loss puts 420whp at 494 crank, 20% loss puts it at 525 crank. If it was 470 crank it only lost 10.6% through the drivetrain, which just doesn't happen.

wonder if these will gain 40rwhp with a cai like the 6.1's do. If so thatw ould be about 460 to the tire. Plus there will be tunes and catbacks on top of that. I think its safe to say its very underated but only time will tell.

The 6.4 HEMI started life as a Mopar crate engine with much more power. There should be plenty of potential with it in production cars now.

Much more power? This is making exactly what the crate would be with 20% drivetrain loss, I don't think it was detuned at all. Crate motor is rated at 525hp, 80% of that is 420hp.

That would be awesome if it turned out to be that motor without any detuning, which it seems to be, we will see when others start posting dynos. I like the way car makers are thinking now days. Give the EPA the middle finger with a 500hp motor, and still bang down respectable mileage in a heavy chassis with ALL the new safety features/creature comforts.

Kudos on the plastic intake.
Then there's the exhaust which by swapping to headers and aftermarket catback is probably another 30 pound reduction.
Could be lighter but better than no Challenger at all.

Question about "old school hemi"........
The last cutaway I saw of a 5.7 Hemi (2008) it had a wedge piston design and a Hemi head. I was under the impression that "old school hemis" were hemi piston and head design, not just hemi heads. This would lead me to think these new engines are more of a Wedge design than Hemi.

the current "hemi" doesnt have a wedge anything. its a hemi head with two quench pads on the sides between the valves. it cant be a real hemi because of all the unburned hydrocarbons. hemis dont burn all of the fuel. so they added quench pads on an otherwise hemi design and it works.
its still old school big cubes and cams. it uses ever trick in the book to make it legal. i have no doubts it has much more potnetial than the 5.0 or LSseries.
i would not be one bit suprised to see it make more power than a tuned LS7.
the canted valve heads have more dynamic potential than LS heads.
folks are gonna our huge cams in them.

True but they should have gone to an aluminum block like Ford finally did with the GT 500. Then there's things like an aluminum driveshaft if they don't have one already. On a stocker these two changes could reduce the weight by 125 pounds over a 2010.
