It's a $50 American Express gift card takes 2-4 weeks to receive.

Gas there, gas back, time to drive and BS with the salesman.

Is it worth it?

That's probably the only way they will get people to test drive one. It's funny - I'd pay them $50 to test drive a corvette, could care less about that crappy regal.

You could offer a trade..."i'll tell you what, let me drive that ZR1, and i'll drive your stupid regal for free."

Yes, I recieved one for the new Regal as well. I will probably do it even though I've already driven one.

I got a similar offer from Hyundai about two years ago to drive the new Genesis sedan. It was fine except I made the mistake of giving the dealer my real phone number and they proceeded to call me every day for a week or so trying to get me to buy a Hyundai.

Depending on how out of the way your local dealership is, I can see that argument. Beyond that, I'd make that process as fast as possible, and give them my home number that I screen calls on. To me, it sounds like GM is pissing away money, again. I don't see this strategy generating too many additional sales.

It's a tactic to get people into dealers. They're there for a $50 gift card to test drive a car that they may or may not have interest in. Ford did this last year. I went to my local Ford dealer with the intention of test driving a Flex, as that car really surprised me at the Philly Car Show. I show up at the dealer with the paperwork and talk to a salesman. We both knew that I wasn't there to buy that day, so he just signed the paper and gave me his card for when I was ready to buy. I didn't buy anything that day, but I do intend to go back there when I am in the market again. And that is what I think this deal is counting on.

Advertising costs money, this is just advertising, plain and simple.

Dodge ran the same promotion like a year ago. In certain states, they can't even legally require you to take the test drive... like Maryland for instance

$50 isn't really worth it when you walk out of the dealership knowing that you drove a Regal and somehow got finessed into buying a timeshare.
