I guess the Corvette doesn't need a V8 either.....look at the success of the 370Z.

There's not one good argument for NOT producing a V6 model Malibu.....unless you're a super-greenie or an I4 nerd.

I would say the LNF would be enough to keep up with the competition. Are you guys just focusing on the weak 2.2/2.4 Ecotecs?

The current generation Malibu is a major step forward from the previous generations that have left a real sour taste in many consumers eyes whom have all switched brands (see sales charts) but the car still has ground to make up. I seriously doubt the engines have that much to do with sales mostly the current model 4cyl is one of the best in its classes but obviously that didnt help sales much now did it.

The Corvette is a performance car, the Malibu is not .

Malibu buyers are concerned about MPGs. V6s in mid sized cars are dead due to technology.

Good point, that turbo 4 could potentially get it done.

With where gas prices are heading, GM may of made a good decision in not offering a V6. Bob

I liked the interior and engine in the current Malibu but I didn't really care for the exterior. The new Buick Regal is a nice looking car but it was a little cramped inside, it's actually made in Germany, and it didn't come with a V6. I heard last year that the new Malibu was only going to have a 4 cyl. so despite being a GM man, I bought a Ford Fusion Sport V6. I know that 4 cylinder motors have progressed greatly over the past few years, but every 4 cylinder car I've had in the past just didn't last with my type of driving.

Right now, I'd get a V6 Charger or 300 if I was in the market.

The turbo ecotec has enough power for the average consumer. The Malibu probably doesn't need a V6. Not having to support multiple engine architectures keeps weight and price down.

exactly 260hp vs 268 on the camry and 271 with the accord its not far off from the competition plus 260 lbft at only 2000 seems like a good idea to me.

I was thinking wait a second why are they updating the Malibu when the Impala is hugely overdue for a refresh?

Eh... It's a Malibu. I remember when a 4cyl. wasn't offered in them, but an 8 was. I'm sure the 4 popper will do for most of those in that market. I don't expect to see a major sales increase, but I don't think it would be much better with a V6. RWD, however, would be a major bonus and that would almost require a V6 offering.

I'm still thinking, if you're going to make it resemble a Camaro from any angle, you should also make it perform like one to some degree.

Looks pretty good to me. If you look at the side of the car in that pic, it kind of resembles the new Taurus a little.

Everything looks sharper, more creased on the new Malibu. It's more aggressive, but still looks good.
