To me they should start the ATS-V with slightly altered version of the LS3 (which would still get much better mileage than the current generation M3 that gets 14/20). And after a few production years and the next generation vette comes into play...refresh time for the ATS-V's drivetrain!
I'm excited for the new turbo motor, but to me a torque monster V8 that tames the street effortlessly is the way to go on a top of the class performance vehicle. Not to mention the whole EPA standards won't be an issue as no NA LSx motor in a car got the gas guzzler tax until the ZR1 came out...
The idea would be less involved, but also less exciting engineering wise.
Just read the above article and think the ATS in all trim levels will be a great compact luxury for Cadillac and future owners.

The ATS-V will not be out during the first production year. Likely the next year.
New Corvette should debut this fall/winter with the Gen V engine.
The LS3 is on the way out. Practically 0% chance ATS-V will see one. If ATS-V is V8 powered, it will be Gen V.

2013 Cadillac ATS 1/4 Mile and 0 to 60
Acceleration testing on a pre-production ATS Premium 3.6 at an unfamiliar test venue resulted in 60 mph in 5.7 seconds (5.4 seconds with a 1-foot rollout as at a drag strip) and the quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds at 101.9 mph.

cadillac is leading the world in luxury and performance. the choice after i pay of the 2011GT is getting harder. (it will 100% be a cadillac). i just dont know which one we will get. we miss the SLS for touring. nothing but another Caddy can replace all of the things the SLS offered.
it wont be a standard DI v6. it will have to be a V of some sort. we haven't ruled out a used XLR-v/STS-v.

To me, the perfect ats-v would weigh under 3700lbs (preferably under 3600lbs), have a close ratio 6 speed, and use some form of LS V8 engine.
The TT V6 sounds cool and interesting, but I would still like to see an NA LS under the hood.
