Default '13 Fusion Hybrid = 47/47 MPG combined, LOL @ Malibu Eco's 25/37

Starting at $27,200, the '13 Fusion Hybrid costs only 3 grand more than the Malibu Eco and get's significantly better MPG. Hats off to Ford, they knocked the Fusion out of the park.

Very nice car, but you do realize the Malibu Eco isn't a hybrid, right?

I'm curious if the fact that ford owned Aston Martin for a while has anything to do with them ripping off the front fascia, though.

The Malibu Eco is a "mild" hybrid system.

Well I'll be damned, I was under the impression it was the same just save weight and reduce drag as in the Cruze Eco. On that note, I don't really see the point of this car.

Malibu Eco is a failure. It isn't even a significant step up from an LT model in mpgs...

Ford is doing a lot of good things right now (minus the manual trans in the Mustangs).

like I said. GM brings back numbers cars got 10 years ago, preaches them as the best thing ever, presents them as gold and you have viola, a polished gm turd.

You don't see the point of what car? The Fusion is a great deal IMO, a nice looking hybrid that gets 47/47 for $27k, what's not to love?

Yeah, considering that the Volt is arguably the world's most technologically advanced car and the ZR1 slays cars that cost half a million dollars. Not to mention the ATS, XTS, CTS, Cruze, Sonic, Camaro, Impala, Regal, and Verano. Yep, GM has been producing some turds lately.

I've seen a few Fusions and Malibus around lately and while I initially thought the Fusion looked better, after seeing them in person, they look like someone stuck an Aston Martin grille on a Hyundai. Meanwhile, the Malibu has a more classic, expensive look, similar to the Caddy ATS.

He's talking about the Malibu Eco. He stated that it was barely better on gas than the base model.

Thumbs up

Wow those are some impressive MPG numbers.

And I don't know what the manufacturers are rating them at but, my friend's new Malibu Eco returned over 44mpg on a 500 mile trip a couple of months back.

This. Might as well make a full hybrid for a couple thousand more and have something much more competitive.

My problem with Chevy is that at one point they were slapping "SS" tags on cars that didn't merit the title, now they seem to have gone in the other direction and refuse to come out with "sporty" models of their bread and butter cars. I wanted a Malibu "SS" with an upgraded suspension and maybe a few more horsies under the hood but it never happened. It looks like it's going to be the same way with the new Malibu and Impala. I ended up getting a Fusion Sport but I would have preferred to stick with GM, which just seems to make higher quality cars IMO.

I'm guessing you bought a 2012 or older because ford no longerboffers a v6 for the 2013 MY plus the new Malibu will offer a turbo 4 that will produce almost the same Hp and tq as the v6 in your car and the new ford turbo 4 is just a few Hp less.

I know the fusion is comparable to the Malibu but did you test drive an impala? I had a 2013 while I was waiting fur my insurance money and I was blown away by how quick it was with the new v6 and 6-speed auto.

That's correct - it's a 2010 Sport. We bought it to replace a SC Grand Prix which was IMO a nicer car but paying for premium for two cars was a killer. I said I'd never buy another 4 cyl car but the Big 3 option are limited/non-existent.

In about a year we will probably buy a new car and we will again compare the Fusion, the Malibu and even the new Impala. Surprisingly, if we were in the market for a hybrid/electric, we would consider a Volt.
