Motortrend ZR1 vs Viper Video

No doubt the Viper took it on the chin...the ZR1 was their benchmark. The Gen V development team went so far as to buy one so they'd have it on hand to compare against. They certainly didn't want it to fall short, yet it did. I wouldn't expect them to just sit there and take it, though...they're already looking at bringing the ACR back, likely before they roll out the convertible version. This test just proved they'll need it, especially if they are going to be using Pirelli as the OEM tire.

This was GM's folly to benchmark an out-going car (read Gen5 Camaro vs 4.6 Mustang). The ACR version better pack a lot more heat or the next gen Z Corvette will embarrass this snake.

^^^ Exactly I mean if the new Viper can't even hang with the ZR1 then the C7 ZR1 will destroy everything... I mean yea its the base Viper GTS vs the ZR1 so I guess SRT needs to reveal their new Viper ACR then take it to the track against a ZR1 but still... Can't wait to see a 2014 Corvette ZR1

The odds of a new ZR1 for 2014 have to be minuscule. I'm all about liking the Corvette and it's been on my top 5 list as long as I can remember as far as cars we can happily drive daily, particularly. Still, it seems wishful thinking.
I'm not convinced we'll see the ACR soon either, but Dodge has always been able to avoid tipping the press, so anything can happen.
The idea that even Randy Pobst will drive the newest Viper to its full potential in only a few laps, however, is simply ludicrous. I'm going to hold off overall judgement until I see "the A team" go out and see what they can accomplish on the same track. Granted, Randy drove both cars on the same day and his results are probably typical, but he also stated he had already driven ZR1's for many miles and that those he'd already driven were missing the tires on this one...
To be sure, I still prefer the Corvette. I just do. Viper, though, is no token also ran and we will absolutely see better from this car in the future, even if it doesn't ever best the Corvette.

ZR1 is likely as a 2015 model, no sooner. Z06 is dead, so the ZR1 will be the only other model worth pursuing (no more GS either, from what I've read). My hope is they bring the ZR1 price down about 10-20K in the absence of a Z06 model.
And yes, the new ZR1 will likely destroy a new Viper, possibly even an ACR. Tires...

I don't understand why they would ditch the Z06 for the C7 line? It seemed to be such a popular seller as the C6Z. Seems like they would take a hit to their sales numbers to me. They produced C6Z's at a rate of 6.5:1 when compared to the ZR1 in overall numbers. (27,525 vs 4,202)

With as few ZR1s that were made, I'd assume they'd focus on a ZO6 before they'd consider a new ZR1. I think they priced themselves out of their niche market...guys that are willing to pay that much for a car are not very likely to go for a Vette.

A lot of insiders are saying Z06 is done. I'm just assuming they're right. I could definitely be wrong. I'd rather see a Z06 over a ZR1 as well.
As it stands, we'll see the base C7, a Z51 package, a Z07 package (track pack, no new engine), and a ZR1. All will be LT1 powered except the ZR1, which will run a blown LT4.
