Revealed - All-New 2015 Ford Mustang
#23
I have a feeling most people who are looking at an entry level mustang will not care what motor is in the car.
There might be a niche market for those wanting the 4 cyl turbo. I am not sure who is going to pay a premium for it though.
I am sure Ford's CAFE numbers are better with the 4 cyl turbo versus the 6. I doubt the 6 will be in the long-term plan for much longer.

The upcoming 4cyl will be all new for Mustang and right in line with the current new Mustang V6. It will offer more efficiency and the V6 is expected to be phased out when the next V6, a twin turbo model(read, 3.5L) will replace it around 2016 or 17. That is expected to be a 400hp V6. That's what I've read, anyway.
According to the article, the transmission has been updated in the 2015 model. I don't think they'll change their mind on that one at this point. Even if it's the MT82, it's not the same.
I guess I had my expectations set too high for this car, but after seeing pictures of the actual car it really isn't doing it for me. It looks pretty good, but pretty bland and too Fusion-like. That rear end looks really bad too IMO. They are also saying it lost around 200lbs now but haven't thrown out any actual numbers. That may(probably) just mean the Eco-Boost Mustang is 200lbs lighter than the current V6 base, which isn't impressive considering the 400lbs they said it was going to lose.
I'm surprised at the common "Fusion" comments. This car looks more like a 1965 Mustang than it does any Fusion and the Mustang had its frontal look all the way back to 1964 whereas there was no Fusion with this look until 2012.
I think it is interesting that they went with 3 engine options. They should have done 2. In fact, I don't understand the need for the turbo 4 AND the 6. I understand the nostalgia of the SVO cars. The v6 was always the 'non-car person' choice. The tuner crowd will like the turbo car. But if you had to pick, wouldnt you go with the 8 if you were a gear head? They need to get rid of one of those options - probably the 6 cylinder.
The 4 is primarily to meet CAFE standards, I'm sure. On the other hand, it helps streamline for them, using all these Ecoboost engines(which are very similar in design).

Speaking of, that MKC looks very much identical to the Escape.

The 2.3 ecoboost is a performance pack with 305 hp and 300 torque with a broad torque curve like the Focus ST and F-150 Ecoboost.
Ford engineer says the 2.3 is insanely fun to drive.
Also it has been said the 2015 GT 5.0 out lapped the 2013 Boss on Fords private proving grounds.

This is what you get when you have a gangbang with a Fusion, 350Z, Aston Martin, & a 2013-14 GT.
I think the front end will eventually grow on me but that rear end is just plain ugly no matter how you look at it. Sticks out way to much & just reminds me of a mix between the 2010-12 & 2013-14 taillights. Then you got the side view of it... Yea. Its a 2 door Ford Fusion with a V8 that's all it is.

V6 will help rental car sales.
Also don't forget this is a global car now and Europe, Japan and China tax you per engine size. With the 2.3 you will pay less tax. V6 not offered in Europe. Just 2.3 and maybe V8.

Yes, but that vehicle(MKC) won't be available till summer of 2014 according to Lincoln, which will be after April 17th, and I'm certain Ford will deliver the 2015 Mustang on that date next yr. It only makes perfect sense. The Mustang version will also be more powerful, from the looks. Still, it is the same basic engine, tuned a bit differently and/or with a few small changes.

Even with the 2.3 engine the car will probably still be pretty expensive in foreign markets which will limit it's appeal. I think that's why Ford is being very conservative with the percentage of production they expect to sell abroad... which makes me wonder why they put so much effort into globalizing (aka watering down) a distinctly American car that won't really be a big global seller like the Fiesta and Fusion/Mondeo.

I like it and I'm not a ford guy. I just can't figure out why ford doesn't give the option of their 6.2? Without buying a 65k gt500. No replacement for displacement.

Even the GT500 doesn't get a 6.2L(it gets a 5.8L). The 6.2L is a big engine and they'd need to offer it as a DOHC in the Mustang, so it may have too much trouble fitting between the strut towers.
