Yes, the new Impala, Monte SS and Grand Prix will have the 5.3 motor. What do you need to know about FWD ?

Well, they list the LS, LT, LTZ version with a RPO of MX0/M15 (4T65-E) which is a 4-speed automatic, electronically controlled transmission with overdrive. They list the SS version as the same but is is an MN7 code with a 4-speed automatic, heavy-duty, electronically controlled trans. with overdrive. If I recall correctly, the 4T65 variant is fairly strong.

Gear ratios for the trans. are: 1st=2.92, 2nd=1.57, 3rd=1.00, 4th=.71

Final drive with the trans. and 303hp V-8 is 3.29:1

Converter size is 9.8 inches.

I hope they actually get better than 28 mpg hwy, I think most of us can do that now in our 5.7L LS1s

I thought the Impala & Monte Carlo SS's and the Grand Prix GXP with the 325 5.3L LS4 were going to be RWD, but they came with FWD. The base models with the 3.5 and 3.9L v6 engines are also FWD. I think they should have made the LS4 models RWD, but that's just my opinion.

The LS4 Impala SS weighs 3,800 lbs.
The LS4 Monte Carlo SS weighs 3,550 lbs.
The LS4 Grand Prix GXP weighs 3,600 lbs.

323 hp and 303 tq. There have been a few stock GXP's run 13.8's @100 already in warm weather. Expect times to drop now that the cooler weather is here.

Also, the final gearing on the GXP's is 2.93. I was ASSuming it was the same on the Chevy models also(Impala and Monte Carlo), but I could be wrong. Guys are going through the traps in 2nd gear.

There's already a forum devoted to them over at http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tt.asp?appid=32

There's one local here in town that I've already modified for the guys using off the shelf parts from home depot and other places. I've already built him a fenderwell intake, installed TR-6's, installed a cutout, and descreened the MAF. The car pulled 102 mph in the late summer, so I definitely expect better ET's and mph from his car. We're heading back to the track on the 19th of this month, and if he can 60's the car, 13.6's @103-104 shouldn't be a problem at all.

Other way around..... 303hp @5600rpm and 323tq @4400rpm

The booklet I got from the dealer states that the heads were originally developed for the Z06, so yeah looks like they are LS6 heads.

I might replace my Bonneville with an LS4 car, either the Monte SS or Impala SS..... not as interested in the GP GXP though.

PS. Chevy's website specs list final drive ratio at 3.29:1 for Impala SS and the same for Monte SS.

thanks for the clarification.......dyslexia > me!! lol

Well, if that's the case, the Chevy's having the 3.29 gearing, then that would explain why a stock GXP was complaining about getting beat by a stock Impala SS.

BTW, my daily driver is an 04' GP GTP CompG. I've only thrown a few mods at it, like a homebuilt 4" FWI, TR-6's, 180 t-stat, de-screened MAF, PulleyBoys MPS w/3.4 pulley, and a cutout, and it runs 13.9s. Hopefully when we go back to the track on the 19th, it will bust out some 13.7's, as I will have a new PCM by then. lol.....and this is supposed to be my daily driver.

Sounds cool..... I would like the GXP a lot better if it used the same grill as the older GTP cars like yours. I like that front a lot better. The grill/bumper cover updates that GM issued on the GXP don't look as nice to me as your car does.

I like all three LS4 cars though, just that I'm leaning towards the Chevys at this point. Maybe once I get used to the GXP grill I'll like it better.....

I'm like you. I had actually thought about trading my car in on a GXP, just to have another LSx based car in the family, but the front-end is what kept me from it. Oh well, the S/C'ed 3800 does alright for me.

The Monto Carlo is considered a sedan? I know the Impala and Grand Prix is with the 4 doors, but I always considered the MC to be a sport coupe with the 2 doors and now I consider it a muscle car since they brought the v8 engine back to it that it hasn't had since the 80's.
