I for one think that the CX-9's baby brother CX-7 is quite the sexy ute so when I heard that Mazda was doing a larger CX-9 my ears perked up. I also liked the Mazdaspeed 6 2.3L direct injection turbo 4 engine and the 6 speed automatic that Mazda chose to go with for the CX-7. Well for the larger CX-9, Mazda has decided to go with it's all new 3.5L naturally aspirated V6. I believe this is also a direct injection mill though I'm not 100% sure. I also believe this could be almost the same engine or at least based on the same design as Ford's upcoming 250hp 3.5L V6 that will find it's way into the Five Hundred/Montego etc...
