Default Ford Continues It's *** Backward Campaign, Resurrects Taurus And Sable Nameplates

Yup. The Five Hundred name will be dropped and the car will be rebadged as the Taurus and the Montego name will be dropped in favor of the old Sable moniker. Additionally get this... the Freestyle will be renamed the Taurus X. How queer is that?

Thankfully Ford doesn't think that the new 260hp 3.5L engine is enough to justify giving the Taurus an SHO badge otherwise I'd have to stab someone.

Honestly quit ******* around and bring the Euro market Ford Mondeo here and sell that **** as the Mercury Mondeo. Dipshits.

I believe Daniel Craig drove that '07 euro market mondeo in Casino Royale. I saw it with a few friends and one of them who would take a BMW or Mercedes over any american sedan asked me what that was because he thought it looked nice as ****. I think they should bring some over to an american auto show and get peoples reaction to the **** they give us here and the cars everyone else gets. I think they would be extremely suprised with the answers they get.

Does anyone remember the original Ford 500 showcar. It was a bit retro, but had the similar squarish lines to the ones the made the Chrysler 300 so popular. Well, when the production car came out, it was obvious that it was nothing more than the next generation Taurus. So, I think Ford is just being honest on this one ...

The "Interceptor" showcar is closer to what the Five Hundred was originally supposed to be.

Me thinks you're thinking of the Ford 427 Concept which was nothing more than a gimmicky show car used to show off the then in development Fusion's future front end styling, not the Five Hundred's. The Five Hundred was a boring piece of **** from the get go. The 427 concept packed a 427 cube V10 under its hood BTW.

I think bringing back the familiar Taurus and Sable names will help things. Now the cars have names that people recognize, and with the freshening they get enough horsepower to get out of their own way. While neither one is my cup of tea, they should have some appeal to a certain segment of the market that wants a big, comfy, not to expensive car.

And it's a lot easier to sell such a car if people know the name of it/know that it exists, which is much more likely now that it's Taurus and Sable rather than 500 SEL (Which makes me think of an early to mid 80s Mercedes Benz model, not a Ford sedan) and Montego (which though it is an old Mercury name, doesn't ring a bell to a lot of the buying public in 2007 like Sable does).

Would you send 427 cubes worth of V10 to the fronts? Actually with some of the dumb **** Ford has been doing lately with regards to its lineup I suppose that was a legit question.

But no, it was RWD. ... unlike the Fusion.
