08' Challenger 20,000 over sticker!! WTF!!
I just wanted to rant on this!!
I went to a Dodge Dealership here in the metro Atlanta area and talked to a sellsman there. I asked about pricing on the new Challenger. And he said that the even though the MSRP is 41k that the 3 for his dealership ordered have a 60k price tag!! I told the guy thats crazy! I know they are in demand but, to outright price them at that!! He said he could get that from people !! And I said " Not Me!! " Then I left!! LOL...... I love the new muscle car era but, if it's going to be that expensive to have a pony car ( I thought a pony car was supposed to be a inexpensive entry level into the sports car market) Not anymore I guess!! So I guess I'll just get me a low mileage 2002 SS and do my modding and beat anything they put out!! I know that the new Challenger for 08' is only offered in the SRT but, still
60k !! I would just buy a used Z06 vette for that price!!
I'm not rich but, if I were I still would not buy one for that price.
I guess some people just pray on the ignorant pubic that have to have the newest lastest greatest !
People who buy these cars for 60k are dumb asses!!
" End of Rant "

I wouldnt pay 41K let alone 60K
The car shoudve been priced about 35 max..
I like the Camaro one minute and hate it the next...
I dont think I would buy one..
My GTO is nice as a DD and was affordable..
I think I might buy a use WS6 as a 2nd car and just drive it on Sundays
These dealers are ******...

Where does it say they are only going to sell SRT-8 Challenger's . I kinda doubt that . Why wouldn't they at the very least sell em with just the regular hemi as a base model ?

Why are you surprised? Wait until the Camaro comes out..I have been preaching on these boards for about 6 months of how the dealers are going to mark up the Camaro..People think they are going to get a 400+hp screamer for 28k, those people are in a Fuc*ing dream world.

That reminds me when the Marauder came out. I went to the Mercury dealership with a buddy of mine to check one out and the sales guys there were acting like the ******* car was the second coming of jesus. They wouldn't even unlock the car to let me look the interior unless I was ready to "get serious about purchasing the thing." They were talking up a storm about the Cobra motor and everything else.
It seems kinda fitting that after a few months Ford couldn't give those cars away.

GM expected to sell three times the number of GTOs they actually sold. Additional dealer mark up probably cost them the additional sales.
Chrysler won't sell enough of those cars to pay for the tooling. Wait 8 months, and they will be giving them away.

No suprise.
Hell I think 41k is still high for MSRP.
Just give it awhile. Probably 2-3 years before things settle down and the market because saturated or used ones starting going up for sale.

I say let the "gotta have it first" people pay the mark-ups, that is the American way. I think the Challenger will do well and sell in OK numbers, enough to keep it in production for some time.
They try the same thing with every "hot new car". The GTO's were getting marked up for the first month or so, then after about 6-9 months or so selected GM card members could have gotten them for just over $20k. Once word hit about the LS2 the new LS1s were not in demand at all. When I bought my Silverado they had a new 03 still sitting on the lot at a dealer, and I bought an 04 at the end of the model year. They still wanted big money for it- only $2k off MSRP for a truck that was already almost 2 years old. Thunderbirds, Vipers, Z06's, ZR1's, GT500s, Cobras, Impala SS, its a long list of cars that demanded premiums initially and could be had for retail still in the first model year.

Look at what happened to the Chrysler PT Loser..There were waiting lists & markups, Now they can't give them away, Same thing with the GTO. I am not sure about the Challenger & Camaro though..If they mark them to high, they will not sell..I talked to the owner of a semi-local dealership at a car show last year, We talked about the camaro..I asked him "how much of a markup on the camaro will you have?" He said "We don't do business like that & will not mark them up"..So when they are for sale, I will guide you to the central coast at Sunset Chevrolet & you can tell George Bedford(owner) that I sent you(he knows me)..If he is a man he will sell you the Camaro at MSRP...Blah

Maybe the 04 GTO's were hard to move but GM moved the 05 and 06 GTO's just fine..They also NEVER were expecting to sell 3 times what they sold,I dont know where u got that idea from bro but suggested sales were EXACTLY what they sold which was about 14,000 cars a year for 3 years?
The GTO was NEVER a car that was going to be made after 06,It was not going to pass LEV after 06...The GTO was an interam car until the Zeta platform was done but GM scraped the TA so it will only be the Camaro and Pontiac will get somekind of 2 door Coupe by 2011...

**** that, they said in the later models there will be a 6speed anyways and more engine options...There is also going to be a V6 so you can bet they plan on keeping this car around
