Because it doesn't work on manual transmission cars. Only automatic Challengers have DoD as well, not the manuals.

Personally I hate it on my G8 and it's the first thing that's going to go when I mod it.

Why do you hate it?

It sounds like you get the best of both worlds?

It takes a half-beat for the car to "wake up" from four cylinders and as near as I can tell it makes zero difference in the amount of fuel the car really uses. It's getting no better than my LS2 GTO that runs on all eight, all the time and makes more power.

I've feared that that might be an issue with the Active Fuel Management/DoD cars but then I'd heard other people with Trailblazers and the like say that it is truly seamless and undetectable when driving.
Can it be deactivated/tuned out with HPT/EFI Live?

Yes, it appears that all V8 models will be called SS (and that all SSs will be V8s of course), at least initially.

True, and that's not always quite the norm from GM, their concepts often lose something along the way but not in this case.
Chrysler/Dodge has been getting the transition from concept to production just right since the early '90s with the Viper.

I'm not a fan of HUD, hence among the reasons why I passed on it in my Corvette.

You need to check your curb weights again. The gt500 cw is 3920. I don't think the it wll be that close.
I have to say though, if the Z28 comes out with the LSA, then I might have to ****** it up!
I am curious to see pricing now.

I heard that it is seamless from other guy's too?
I also heard it can be tuned.
It works by percentage of load or something?
Based off of a few different sensors.
I actually heard that GM sets it at around 5% and if you get into the throttle at all, it goes right to V8.

You may need a tune to get it to your liking?

As far as fuel mileage being the same...Isn't the GTO lighter?
Also, is the G8 fully broken in yet?
Have you taken any long highway drives where you would burn 1/2 to a full tank?

yep, and you can bump it form 5% throttle to 11% or so and pick up a few mpg. up to about 4mpg over a non DOD vehicle. sounds like damn good technology to me. wish GM would tune it more agressively.

...and also roughly 70-80 more horsepower at the wheels (LS3 C6 manuals have dyno'd as much as 395rwhp) as well.

You can read Edmunds long-term test of the G8 they bought, they are averaging in the mid teens with the car fully broken in. That's what I'm getting as well.

It's basically ****. Stop/start would do much more to save fuel than simply cutting cylinder firing on the freeway going at a constant speed. And I didn't buy a V8 to have it run on four cylinders, if fuel economy was a huge concern I would not have bought a RWD muscle car in the first place.

some guys on the G8forum.com are seeing 28-29mpg hwy with an AFM tune from Vector. sounds pretty impressive to me. 400hp 4000lbs and up to 29mpg.

Too god damn heavy.

I would like to see it perform 1/4 mile before I give any judgements on it.

We need a turbo I4 or something with better MPG for mass sales.

I want an LS3...but that weight is just too much. 3900 lbs is not happening.
