Agreed, there were probably 7000 V's sold every year since 2004 and the only rears that I know of that were broken are the 100 or so that I read about on the internet. For the majority of owners the rear is just fine even though I'd personally would have liked to have some additional safety factor in there for mods.
While I had a very difficult time parting with my 2004 V, I sure am enjoying my new 2009 V, a fantastic car that has seemed to address any short comings of the first gen car!

The 100 you read about, probably replaced 2-3 times... = 200-300 carriers.
You think EVERY V owner is on one of the forums you read on? Not a chance.
$52K car brand new... should have been 0 differential problems.
