Default What is the best x-pipe and muffler delete combo on a stock LS6 V?

After reading and hearing the posts on this mod I am considering doing the same. Anyone have this done to their V with good/bad results? I have an '05 with the LS6.

Part numbers and where to buy the parts from would be greatly appreciated.

The other option I am considering is going with the Magnaflow #16636 catback system which seems reasonably priced via hottexhaust + coupon.

Thanks.

i would just start with the muffler delete and see how you like the sound. just buy any tips that you like with a 2.5 inch inlet, 4 inch outlets fit the bumper cutouts perfectly fyi. then just take to to a shop and get them to cut the mufflers off and bend the pipe to attach the tips and your done. shouldnt cost more then 150 in labor. i bought summit tips and they are very nice.

I am getting a muffler delete this Monday, just got my tips today, will let you know how it sounds, although I don't think will be doing an X pipe.

I love my Magnaflow exhaust but have noooo idea if I have x/y pipes or headers! I can say that I love the sound and also get lots of compliments about how nice the rumble sounds...

you dont know if you have headers and an X or Y pipe? seriously? you havent opened your hood or knelt down and looked under the car????

first off, why would you have a Y pipe at all?

i did the magnaflow xpipe and muffler delete. it sounded rowdy under accleration but was raspy from idle to about 2000rpm....after that...sickness.

Note: the car is much louder in person. my camera muffles the sound.

i wanted to fix the raspyness, but keep the same sound so i put the little magnaflow bullets on. sounds really good.

the mufflers have broken in a lot since this vid and is quite a bit louder...there is a WOT pass at 45sec.

another note, the idle with the muffler/resonator delete and stock cam was kinda annoying from the back of the car. with the cam, sounded great.

i like my set up and was still a lot cheaper than the magnaflow system. basically the same thing with louder mufflers....

Jerry has done a resonator delete with the stock mufflers and it sounds pretty damned good. keeps the stock look, sounds aggressive and is the cheapest option of all.....

oh, and as far as a catback goes....you are doing it for sound.

i did a dyno thread (that i deleted because it got so diluted) and found that guys with catback systems such as magnaflow and corsa gained 0-5 horses (they guy with the corsa gained 0 HP)....unbelievable that you can spend over 1000 bucks and gain no HP isnt it???

now maybe if you open up the system with headers and highflow cats or cat delete, then the res and mufflers may be the restriction...

I have the full Magnaflow system with the X-pipe. It sounds awesome at all RPMs and loads but does droan at lower RPMs while under load. With the lack of real gain from a full cat back if I had to do it again, I would probably do that same thing SS#1230 did.

my wife still thinks its too loud. but i guess thats why they call them girls huh?

i wish i could do LTs and either high flows or cat deletes. she'd really throw a **** fit then....

but the next 1000 bucks i drop on it would probably be heads over the headers. and still pass smog.

This is what i will be doing. I gutted the mufflers about a month ago. Got a little raspy over stock. More audible inside of cabin. Got curious and dropped from cats back this weeked and started her up..... WOW! That is what a V8 should sound like. The resonators on our cars are so much of a restrictor. I am getting an x-pipe hopefully this week. I'm calling around some shops today. I loved the sound, pretty much exactly like cut-outs. If it gets too raspy down low, ill just swap the mufflers later.

I also installed the Magnaflow catback with x-pipe. The sound is amazing, and IMHO, the best on the market.

Thanks for posting my youtube video.
I liked what the Xpipe did for sound, I say it gave the car just a little more GRRRR...but still quesit at idle.

But I think this week, I going to change my stock mufflers to some magnaflows..

When I do, I'll upload anouther video...

cheers...

He didn't go about it the nicest way, but some may find it surprising that some one who is active on this forum doesn't know if his car has headers or not, or that the Vs have x-pipes & not y-s. There is no need to get butt-hurt about it and turn this thread into another personal slandering/vendetta.

Back to the thread's discussion.

i mean enough to you to be your avatar huh? im honored. but i think youve represented your self quite well.

over a thousand posts in about six months AND work 64 hours 7 days a week.....no wonder you didnt have time to look under your hood. you must never sleep.

a word to the not so wise....you should pop the hood and kick the tires BEFORE you buy your next car.
