Pontiac G8 GT, faster than a V?!?!?

And yes, a VERY CONSERVATIVE driver MAY avoid any rear issues with the V

i didnt read all the posts in this thread but....
my guess is that the G8 auto is gonna kill a V1 on the 60' at the track. a street race from a roll...the V should pull on it with good shifts...
and this wont answer any questions, but here is a vid i took at the local strip with a maggied G8 vs. a head and cam GTO.
the G8 is the same car youll see in the Magnuson adds in the magazines....

You can see in my video that G8 pulls me half a car in the 60, I think he was running 1.9's to my 2.2's and 2.3's. I caught him late down the track. From a roll, it should be an easy kill.

I know I was not there, but I doubt he was running 1.9s with an 1/8 mile time of 9.1 sec for a stock G8. My guess would be in the high 2.0-2.1 range. A 1.9X in a stock G8 will get you into the high 8's with no problem unless it is really crappy weather. To be honest, I have only seen a bone stock G8 GT break into the 1.9's a handful of time and those run usually net some of the fastest stock times. 2.0's - 2.1's are more the norm.

I've street raced a G8 GT & a LS2 GTO (both autos) on I-5 and neither of them were close, I was pulling strong the entire time. I will admit that I would definitely get beat from light to light by either one of those. If it was only about the track I would have bought a LS1 SS or WS6 and dropped 10k in it and have a solid 10 second DD. For me it was about having a very mature and luxurious car that had an awesome dark side. I'm not saying anything bad about the Pontiacs, but the Caddy hands-down is a nicer car. Another thing I love about this car is you can drive around all day and never see another one. The trade-offs for having a more luxurious and nicer riding car is a weaker rear diff. Personaly, my track days are behind me. I love my rare Caddy!

Same boat, one full car seat and one booster in the back of the G8 as I drive my kids every school day. This is one area where the G8 shines over the V, the interior room is huge and that did factor a little in my decision.
I see alot of people touting the styling of the V over the G8 (expected in this forum ), that is going to be very subjective. A lot of people don't like the art and science styling of the V, but I do. The exterior styling between the 2 was a wash to me but I like the interior styling of the G8 better, granted the V has more luxury items than the G8. When I was doing car shopping in April of '08 the price of the G8 and a used '05-'06 V were pretty close. If I had waited a few months after the used car market tanked maybe price would have been more of a factor.

Okay, I am going to ask, why the H3LL did GM/Caddy put the V emblem on the door, as opposed to the front quarter? Not enough room between flare and end of panel?
