Default Pontiac G8 GT, faster than a V?!?!?

Whether you like them or not, they may kick your V's **** down the strip:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/pontiac-g...close-12s.html

Keep in mind, this is the GT, which is rated at 361HP/385TQ, not the GXP version, rated at 415/415; the OP has done some mods, including a tune, but nothing too expensive. The 1.99 60' is indicative that they came from the factory with a better launching rear-end than our 'Luxury Cadillacs" did.

That's okay, with his almost half a second RT, I could easily smoke him on the street.

Another reason why I don't track my V, I didn't buy it to break on the track trying to get a sub 2 second 60.

Impressive nonetheless.

1/8th mile, that G8 ran a 9.1 every time....every.....time. I was running 8.9's with tune, exh and intake, spinning with 2.3 60ft's.

Its ok... They look sexxy too! Anyways think of the *** whoopin we would give if we had strong launch proven rear!!! Trap speeds for sure in the 12's everytime!!! I want to save up for a madman or a cheap Cobra rear and take my V out before I have it installed to really jush her and see what I can get!!! Only bad thing is that once I do that it will have to be at a 1/8 mile track! unless I take a road trip which would suck once I snap the current rear and have to get it AAA'd home...

im a racer at heart and i will be doing road racing this summer and hitting the drag strip as well.

i still dont understand why non of the hendrix axle people have hit a strip yet to try and get some decent times with their cars.

I am a big V fan too as I almost bought one, but I have yet to see a time from a bolt-on V (1st Gen) that beats my few simple bolt-ons (cai, catted LTs, and tune only) G8. My time is in my sig and don't let the low mph fool you that run was made into a ~20mph head wind. I have run 111mph on a much worse DA day. All my runs have been on stock 19" tires. It has also made it out to a few autocrosses and does quite well. My Camaro is my roadcourse car though.

congrats on your 12.5 but you must not be that big of a fan because if you know the V you know it will never be a 1/4 mile car. it will run circles around the g8 autocrossing and give you a run for your money from a roll but these cars simply arent made for the drag strip.

I know exactly about the V's problems launching and that was one of my reasons for not getting the car as I already had a roadcourse car to play with, so this car (G8 or V) was most likely going to get played with at the strip besides being my daily/kid hauler. As for the autocross, I have been autocrossing (vettes, f-bodies, and DSMs) off and on for over 20 years and I was very impressed with how well the G8 did. It is much closer than you might think and the V is not going to "run circles" around it. I already know of a case where a stock G8 and V were at an autocross together with drivers of pretty equal experience and the G8 came out on top. No, I am not saying th G8 is a better autocross car but that they are much closer than you might think.

About 295-305 rwhp or so but, like the A6 Vette, it does not have a 1:1 4th gear to dyno in so that "hurts" its dyno number. Though, you may be talking 10 rwhp at the most. Mine puts down just shy of 360 rwhp with its mods.

Yes that is not unusual for the G8. It is tuned from the factory for regular (87) gas so a tune can pick up alot. The factory exhaust manifolds are pretty restrictve also so the LT headers can pick up 35 rwph alone with no tuning. Remember the L76 is like your LS2s (+06) but with better heads and intake manifold (LS3). What holds the the L76 back, besides what I have already mentioned, is a very mild cam for use with the AFM.

As for a run, I am game for a friendly run if anyone is in the area but we can do a roll and a dig .

I saw in person a full bolt-on G8 get 40 rwhp / 30 rwtq from a dyno tune. The car was previously tuned by a handheld predator.

So your saying that the full bolt-on got ONLY a 40 rwhp/30 rwtq gain from the dyno tune? or are you saying that the predator tune gave it a gain but the dyno tune was able to squize out an extra 40 rwhp/30 rwtq on top of the predator tunes gains too? That sounds about right.

in the new GM High Tech, they talk about a cam swap adding 140hp. Get rid of DOD lifters and cam and add ls7 setup. WOW
